Island Jerk Shack — Restaurant in Florida

We visited this dope little location over the weekend and were satisfied. First and foremost, this place is an outside "cookshop" as my jamaican friend would call it. It is a small location outside eatery, but it has big personality. The location has outside seating and you're surrounded by bamboo trees, papaya trees, pineapples etc the place is always it's own entity on the street. The scenery makes for a great mini island escape. The server is a one man show. He takes the order, prepares the food, and takes payment. He is friendly and professional. The first things he stated once we arrived is that his food is authentic jamaican food so of course I put him to the test bringing along my jamaican friend. He gave this place is yardie approval :) I love the fact that food is prepared to order that day and is fresh. He also served all natural honemade fruit juices and jamaican beverages which we loved! That was my absolute favorite menu item. We ordered the cucumber water and the pineapple ginger juice and they were so refreshing and delicious. Came here Wednesday evening. It’s right in the area I be in so I stopped by. Got the medium jerk chicken. It wasn’t spicy like I prefer but it was pretty good. Good price, good portion. Couldn’t tell if they were open due to there being no customers or visible employees. I’m not mad at that tho cuz I was in and out.

Fast forward to Thursday. MEDIOCRE! Only came here cuz a coworker wanted it. Less chicken this time and it was dry. The rice was also dry and the vegetables were hard. Should’ve came with a warning cuz I damn near lost a tooth on a carrot. Then dude tried to charge me .75 for jerk sauce. Why do I have to pay for something that should’ve been on there already? Money ain’t an issue but I’m big...

The experience is just like the food… bland . We are in an era where vibes and creativity is part of the business image and this shack isn’t it. I ordered curry chicken with rice and beans and a side of cabbage . Too much fat on the chicken and what made matters worse every time I thought I found a piece of chicken to eat it’s filled with crushed bones . The young man who took my order seemed like he wanted to clock out , coming from a background of customer service I couldn’t help but to think he didn’t want to be there !
