OMG! What a hidden gem!
This place is a Mexican market with a restaurant/grill inside. The prices are ridiculously low and the quantity and quality of the food is huge for the value! We enjoyed chicken and pork tamales and an order of nachos. The green salsa (Verde) for the tamales was spicy and very flavorful. The chicken tamales were good and the pork tamales were exceptional! I prefer a little less masa but these pork tamales were packin' some flavor. Now on to the nachos. Think back to the last time you had good nachos. Did you put salsa on them? Well the nachos at La Botana were so rich and flavorful that I didn't even realize that there was no salsa on the nachos until we had devoured them. These nachos were covered in beans, cheese, jalapenos, lots of salantro, crema, and beef. Maybe a little spring onion too! This is your traditional Mexican store with a restaurant. You place your orders with the ladies at the food counter. Then you pay at the front counter. Once your food is given, make sure you ask for whatever it is you might need extra at the time. There is no follow-up once your food is served. You can always walk up to the food counter and ask for whatever you might need later. (To go containers) The food portions are generous, and the prices are fair. It is worth a stop if you're in the area and looking for a filling lunch. The look of the restaurant reminds me when you go to another country and eat where the locals eat. Does not look the best, but LA Botana definitely serves...
Read moreThis was the best Mexican food I've ever had. We've been visiting Lake Wales for 15 years regularly and always drove by, but never knew it was a restaurant. It doesn't look like one from the outside and when you walk in, you're walking in to a grocery with the restaurant in the back. We had the chicken and carne asada empanadas, chicken quesadillas, chimichanga, burrito, pork tamales, and a carne asada tostada. It was all delicious. We tried each other's meals and we were all pleased. It was about $40 for the 4 of us, including drinks, and the portions are very generous. This will definitely be a must stop place everytime we're in the area...
