First of all, I LOVE this place. I spend alot of money here, and it is my go to place when I'm too lazy to cook. I always make sure to tip when I order, so I am always fairly generous. Lately, my last 2 orders have been very sloppy. You guys must have a different cook than usual, because one time I ordered sushi and brought it home, the rolls were sloppily put together, and the sushi itself was obviously bad, because it smelled and tasted sour and was a very rubbery like texture. You should never serve customers bad raw fish. It never turns out well. Lucky for me, I can tell the difference. Most people can't. I didn't want to waste my gas to drive all the way back into town, so I let it slide. Today, I ordered 3 different meals. Whoever made my chicken katsu clearly didn't care that they burnt it and it was incredibly dry. The rest of my orders were fine, but the katsu was ruined. For as pricey as this place is, and as generous as I am when I tip, you'd think whoever did my food would care when they mess something up. This is two times I've ordered here in a row where I've been given bad quality food. I am very upset and very disappointed. Since the pandemic hit, the quality has gotten poor. I'm hopping that whoever owns or manages this place sees this and reaches out. I've spent 60 dollars here, and have only gotten about 15 dollars worth of good food. I'm hoping that it's just a new cook....I will give this place one more try in the future, I will no longer tip as I've already wasted my hard earned money rewarding terrible food. If things do not change, then I will be forced to order elsewhere, which would suck because this place has always been good up until recently. I will also be opening and checking everything before I leave, including tasting my food,as I can't waste gas to drive all the way back into town to let someone know they did a terrible job. Please have a talk with whoever does your sushi and whoever cooks and chops your chicken. Remind them that people pay to eat this food and they look forward to actually being able to eat it. Make sure they know what's good and what's bad. They can get people sick, and that is not ok. The public should know my...
Read moreRating: 3/5 I’ve been a loyal fan of Hibachi Express and have previously given them 5 stars for their great service, delicious food, and fair pricing. However, I was recently disappointed after visiting post-hurricane and noticing what looked like price increases across much of the menu.
For example, fried rice options and combo hibachi meals had gone up by $0.75 to $1 compared to their pre-hurricane prices. At first glance, it felt like price gouging during a difficult time for the community.
After comparing prices and factoring in Polk County’s 7% sales tax, I now realize that most of the new prices closely match or are even slightly below the original prices once tax is added. However, the Combo Fried Rice price jumped significantly—nearly a dollar more even with tax included—which still feels excessive and inconsistent with their explanation.
I appreciate the owner’s response explaining that the temporary pricing included tax and was meant to streamline service without taking advantage of anyone. For the most part, I believe them. But I do hope they’ll revisit the few items that saw steeper hikes and aim to be more transparent about price changes during times of crisis.
I’m still a fan of their food, especially the hibachi steak and sushi rolls, and I’ll likely return. But I believe fairness and trust go hand-in-hand with good business, especially when the community is trying to...
Read moreWe used to love this place! It had the best sushi and even hibachi plates were amazing! We have been gone for a year and used to be regulars here, but tonight for the first time of ordering this food in awhile it seems like the food has changed especially the sushi sucked! Steak and shrimp plate was very skimpy compared to all the meat in the chicken. 2/3 that did eat the food in our house ended up on toilet all night. We ate the food because we hate wasting or even asking for a refund (before we knew how much it was gonna upset our stomachs!) I was really disappointed. We are willing to give it another try because it was our hotspot, but if we get the same kind of food again we will not be returning and wasting our money. Sorry for the honest review but I hate paying for something that I didn’t even think it was worth it and I’m not looking for any kind of handout I just hope they bring up their game because we really used to love it here! Edit to add, an hour after eating sushi only the people that sushi got food poisoning it’s pretty bad! Thinking about calling health department when they open Monday to see what...
