Ice cream so good it will make you SCREAM
We were wrapping up dinner at a local establishment when the obligatory 'would you like dessert' question was popped. We don't like paying $12 for dessert - so we politely declined and the youngest said - "Is there an ice cream place nearby?"
"Yes!!!" said our waitress, with more enthusiasm than she probably should have, "There is a new one open - Made in the Shade! Just up the road"
Off we went, concerned that we would miss the 9 PM closing time, but made it with 2 minutes to spare. We were greeted by a flamingo pink OPEN sign and a few late night patrons.
An old timey juke box greets you as soon as you enter the door - (my favorite classic was Dreamin) but the highlight was the ice cream.
The owners have done a fantastic job of blending standard favorites with some crazy creative flavors - My favorite being Caromocha - think sea salt caramel ribboned through mocha chocolate. Yes it's as good as it sounds!!!
But the peice de resistance is their multispledorabulous array of cookie dough!!!! My kids must have sampled 7 different types of combinations. I won't tell you all of them - sample them yourself!!!
The owners love their craft - you can tell in their voice and their enthusiasm - even though it was past closing time. 1 Scoop Waffle Cone, 1 Scoop cup, 2 Scoop cup - a little over $10 - best bang for the buck in Englewood!!!
And a perfect way to end a spring night...

4.20.22 - Update... Still freaking amazing!!! So glad to see that they are doing well enough that they had to move to a bigger spot in the same plaza. Great ice cream by even better people! Stay awesome!
From a long time ago - One of the absolute best little ice cream places you'll ever find. Awesome throwback vibes, retro drinks and design (even a working jukebox), amazing creations (ice cream & cotton candy burritos are my favorite so far) and all done by some of the absolute kindest and happiest people you could meet. Since moving to this area and stumbling upon this gem, it has become our go to and we've become regulars. I can't say enough good about the owners, the service or what they create and sell. Definitely worth checking out if you...
Read moreWe are local and are full-time resident in Englewood so we get to stop by this place at least 2-3 days a week. The couple that own it (Mike and Rebekah) are great and the service there is always friendly and you are glad that you stopped by. They have several dessert options but we really like the ice cream which is what we go for most of the time. Whenever we have company in town we make sure that their visit involves at least one trip to Made in the Shade and all of our family loves it as well.
There is a large selection of ice cream and they make their own waffle cones which my wife loves. The decor is really nice with a jukebox that works and you can play anything that you want. This is a great place to go for dessert whether you are here for a week...
