I've been passing by this restaurant for about a year now and finally decided to give it a shot. We decided to cover all or most of the bases on this first trip. We ordered cheese bread with a side of Alfredo, garlic knots with the marinara, gnocchi in their famous meat sauce, a side salad and a large half pepperoni pizza.
When it comes to Italian food there are a few things to consider before judging a place. For me, it's how well they make an alfredo and meat sauce. With that being said I'm also a huge pizza connoisseur so I couldn't pass up the opportunity. They have a thin style and thick style but we opted for thin.
The garlic cheese bread was perfect. It had the perfect ratio of garlic and melted, toasty cheese to make for an enjoyable appetizer. The side of alfredo we ordered for dipping was absolutely amazing. rich and creamy and full of flavor. The garlic knots were a bit of a miss though but still weren't bad.
The gnocchi in their famous meat sauce was not very enjoyable. This was only my second time trying gnocchi in general so I won't speak on that but let's talk about the famous meat sauce. It wasn't famous with me or my friends taste buds. She made a comment about how it seemed so watered down and I agreed. Furthermore, after the fork sat in the bowl for about 5 minutes during a conversation you could see a large visible pooling of water that had separated and settled on the top. There was just a lack of flavor as well.
The pizza seemed to be cooked a little to low in temp. When you do this for a longer period it causes the cheese to sweat all the grease out which then pools on tip. Not only is this messy but just makes for an unpleasant experience. I tried soaking all this grease up by applying Parmigiano on top but we ended up dabbing napkins on top to mitigate the situation.
After we ordered all this food and 2 draft beers the total was only around $55.00 so that was a treat. The server was very accommodating and polite and even boxed our food up at the end of the meal.
Ninos definitely isn't my favorite Italian restaurant but I will be going back to try the alfredo on a pasta dish as well as to try the thick...
Read moreSeriously great place. To tell you had good it was, it was a 40 minute wait on Saturday night!!! (We actually only waited about 20 minutes.) The place is VERY crowded - seems to be the "go to" place in this area.
This is an unassuming place in a strip mall area (plenty of free parking). When you go inside, it is a completely different vibe - very clean and nice and big. There's a bar area and a couple high tables, then to the right is the large dining room.
I ordered baked ziti; that was 3 nights ago and I am still eating it. You get a LOT of food. It was delicious and I brought out a lot! My friend ordered angel hair with oil and garlic. The garlic was roasted and it was SO good - her portion was very big too.
The garlic knots (come with the meal) are quite delicious. A small salad (not the best) also comes with your meal. It was just some dark greens, a piece of onion, and a cherry tomato - I've had better salads, but I wasn't there for a salad.
We started with the fried zucchini sticks. They were good, but I think were cooked just a tad too long (that did NOT stop us from eating every single one - there were a lot of them). Also, they come with maranara sauce and I prefer ranch for dipping. They brought me a little plastic take-out thing of ranch, which was fine, but they should be served with ranch (just my opinion).
For dessert, we had the lemon cello cake - soooo delicious! One piece is enough to share.
I found the prices to be very, very reasonable. Neither of our dishes contained any meat, but for what we got, the price was great.
Our server was very nice, however, he was overwhelmed. I think he might have been the only server on a very busy Saturday night (he was the only server we saw in the large dining area besides the people cleaning off tables). I had to ask a couple times for things, but it really wasn't a huge problem, especially considering the place was full and people were waiting.
Despite those small things I whined about, this is an excellent place to eat. We really enjoyed it and when my travels take me to Ft. Myers again, I can't wait to...
Read moreThis was our first time coming here and I can say with 10000% certainty that we will never come back. We had 6 people eating and found hair in 3 things - literally baked into the rolls and ziti and in a salad. No one wanted to finish eating after that. The manager first went to the wrong table, was then rude to the server on front of us, and really didn't do enough considering THREE hairs in our food. One "kids meal" was taken off the check, and we were given a measley 10% discount, so still had to pay over $115 for no one to finish a meal. No one wants to eat after finishing so much hair in the food! We only had one drink from the bar and no appetizers, so this isn't a cheap place to eat. There are also no actual kids meals so be prepared to pay $16 for a "kids" plate of pasta full of hair.
UPDATE - Tried to call this morning (Tuesday) after 10 am as instructed by the owners response - CLOSED still. They don't open until 11 and nobody answers. No option to leave a message. Will try back, but don't tell someone to call after 10 when you aren't even open yet and won't answer the phone! It isn't making an already bad situation better!
Wow. Called back again at 11:10 am. Hostess or whomever answered the phone informed me the owner had just left and I could speak to manager. I informed her no thanks, I had already spoken to management on Sunday and my issue was not resolved, so I was told to call back in 2 hours. She did rather unhappily take my number to give to the owner upon my request. Dear owner - You can call me. I am not going to...
