I recently had a takeout experience at Nori Japanese and Thai on Clark Rd in Sarasota, and I must say it left me with mixed feelings. While there were certain aspects of the meal that I enjoyed, there were also elements that left me disappointed.
Upon receiving my order, the first thing that caught my attention was the sushi. Unfortunately, the initial impression was not a positive one. The fish used for the sushi did not look or smell fresh; all three types of fish had a slimy texture that immediately raised concerns about their quality. Despite the short time it took for me to get from the restaurant to my eating location, the condition of the fish was off-putting and gave me reservations about its freshness.
On a more positive note, the Bento Box that I ordered did offer some variety, and there were components of the meal that I found enjoyable. The California roll was a highlight, with its pleasing combination of flavors and textures. Additionally, the Chicken Teriyaki and rice were well-prepared and satisfying. These components of the meal were certainly redeeming factors that showcased the potential for quality dishes at Nori Japanese and Thai.
The service and the ease of the takeout experience were also commendable. The staff was friendly and efficient, ensuring that my order was ready in a timely manner and that I encountered no issues during the process.
However, it was the quality of the sushi that ultimately shaped my overall impression of the meal. The unappealing condition of the fish detracted from what could have been a more positive dining experience. As someone who values the freshness and quality of ingredients, the disappointment I felt in this aspect makes it unlikely that I will return to Nori Japanese and Thai specifically for sushi.
In conclusion, my experience at Nori Japanese and Thai on Clark Rd in Sarasota left me with mixed feelings. While there were elements of the meal that I enjoyed, such as the Chicken Teriyaki, California roll, and rice, the condition of the fish used for the sushi was a significant drawback. The slimy texture and lack of freshness detracted from what could have been a more satisfying meal. The service and takeout process were positives, but the subpar quality of the sushi is likely to prevent me from returning for sushi...
Read moreWas greeted by stale unpleasant smell inside restaurant. Should have walked right there, but decided to give it a shot. Asked for red curry lunch special. It was under 12 dollars vs 17 dollars dinner pricing. Girl took my order, then asked me while standing far away by the register- “do you want large or regular?” I said - is there a difference in price? She said, yes. I told her to just do the regular then. I thought to myself it was weird that they have different lunch special sizes and prices, but whatever. Food was bland as can be, not a good curry at all, tasted like leftovers, green beans were so tough I picked them all out. I make curry at home a lot and I am not a picky eater. But this was bad. Beef completely tasteless and tough, no authentic Thai flavor to curry, no lemongrass, kaffir leaves or Thai basil flavor to be found. When she brought the check - price for curry was dinner price! I said, didn’t I specifically ask you for red curry lunch special? She said - but I asked you large or regular, and regular is a dinner price. I said, what! Lunch special is lunch special and that’s what I ordered! She offered to charge the price, but in a minute came back with older lady from kitchen that tried to prove to me that I, in fact, was served dinner portion. I was pretty shocked how far they were willing to argue over 5 dollars in price different instead of making it right for the first time customer. I wasn’t willing to go any further, money wasn’t the issue, just the fact that they were both dishonest. Not to mention that for the “dinner”, serving size was laughable compared to other Thai places I have visited throughout my life. Terrible experience! I usually don’t write negative reviews, but these guys need to hear it. Lost a customer over five bucks! I was going to give their sushi a shot next time, but there won’t be a next time now! Let this be a learning experience...
Read moreSo the wife and I say that this place got really high ratings on Google, but our experience was less than stellar here.
First off, it took about 10-12 minutes before anyone acknowledged that we were even there after we seated ourselves. Once our server finally came over to us and asked us what we wanted to drink, it took another 10 minutes before we were asked what we wanted to order.
The place didn't look crowded to us as to merit such long wait times to get noticed and waited on. After we ordered, it was another full 30 minutes before we saw our food. The drinks came out quickly so that was good.
When we finally did get our food, we got a mixed result in the taste depending on the dish we had. Our Thai spring rolls and peanut sauce was freaking amazing in flavor! But our sushi rolls we're just okay and not anything special. They tasted more like "all you can eat" quality rolls rather than the $13-15 dollar rolls we paid for. So I was little disappointed a out that. I felt as if I could have gone to an "all you can eat" sushi restaurant and gotten the same quality for even less money that what we paid for here. Now that being said, the sushi rolls we're BIG, so, that was the trade off!
Now, the one really AWESOME thing about this place is their Thai tea, THAT was something special indeed! TRY IT!
So, again, there food here isn't "bad" at all! But I just feel that's it's just "okay" for the prices we paid. Also, the wait time was just not good. Maybe we came in an off day or something...? I will give this place another try and update my...
