Papa Joe's Subs — Restaurant in Florida

Never been to this place and never will go back and it’s not because of the food that lacks real flavor or seasoning but because of the customer service. The place says Papa Joes Cuban Sandwiches and so I thought I was walking into a place full of Cuban workers but that was not the case, instead white American workers which is fine but of course that is like the sign outside saying Indian food but you then walk in you see Russian workers . Nevertheless, as soon as I walked in the white lady cashier was literally at my throat to order, I told her it would be a minute as I looked at the menu, some guy came in talking to the people in the back about his order and as soon as I had a question about the menu, she literally put me on hold while she listened to the guy who was talking to the people in the back. After he was done talking to the people in the back, she then wanted to talk to me but seemed annoyed that I was even asking questions about the menu. I then ordered after she answered my questions but i suddenly changed my order and she freaking lost it, and said OK WHAT DO YOU WANT as her face and attitude was unhinged beyond belief. I ordered again, she wrote it down and literally almost threw my order ticket to the back cooks in disgust. Look, I don’t know if it’s because I am a man of color or maybe you aren’t allowed to change your order in this place idk. Nor was the place that busy where I had people behind and she was surely kind to all the white men that were coming in ordering behind me , so I’m sure she just doesn’t like people of color because there is zero way if a white customer simply changed their order before she even handed the ticket to the cook that she would of gotten mad like that with a white customer. Also I used my credit card to pay and the screen asked me if I wanted the receipt in a text that brought up my phone number that I didn’t put in , and I ask the same lady laughingly how did it know my number because I never seen that before and boy she almost lost with the get the hell out of my face look, didn’t answer me and started talking to the next person. So basically the food is ok but not nothing to constantly go back for but if you are a person of color, I wouldn’t go...

04/06/17: update If there was an option for 0 stars, I would downgrade to that. The new management/owner is rude and the quality of the food has gone down further....cold fries, mushy pork and only cuban bread as an option for all sandwiches. Definitely off my list of local places to have breakfast or lunch as nothing has improved in 5 months. I had to downgrade my opinion of Papa Joe's. I've been working in the area for over 10 years and this was a favorite stop for breakfast and lunch. They have new people running it now and the food is not as good as it used to be. The breakfast sandwiches are greasy now and the Cuban they make is not up to its previous standards which is sad because that was my favorite sub and I recommended it everyone. The staff is not as friendly and service is significantly slower. I hope it gets better but I think I am going to find another...

We paid close 50.0 for 4 cubans and a salad. We saw the less than small lunch portion of a sandwich, then decided to upgrade to a larger portion that we usually get in Ybor. When we opened the sandwhiches, they were dry, bread was not fresh, there was little meat in them, and were angry as hell ! being Tampa Natives, we put you all on a pedestal being voted #3 Winner in the nation. Ybor here we come. By the way the lunch menu on the wall states that you can pick any item listed , including a devil crab. When we ordered this; we were told that it would be a $3 mark up on this particular item, because it is a "A LA CART" item. If you Love AUTHENTIC CUBAN SANDWICHES, this isn't the place to go.
