My familia and I were visiting our oldest son, stationed at Eglin AFB. WE were on our way to Home Depot when our lovely Puerto Rican flag caught the corner of my eye and told my oldest to look at the restaurant menu to see what they had. Two days later, we decided to go and see for ourselves how the place was and how the food tasted. To start, we order some alcapurrias and a chicken empanadilla ( empanada), and for the main entry, my kids order carne frita, one with rice and beans and the other with french fries. My wife ordered the pork chops with white rice and beans, and I decided to try their KanKan porkchop with arroz mamposteado. We waited a couple of minutes, and the food started to come out. To my surprise, the food looked good, smelled delicious, and tasted like you were eating on the island. The porkchops were super tender and had like a smoky flavor, like if they were cooked in el fogón and the KanKan porkchop was top of the line. I had tried in different places the porkchop, but let me tell you the flavor was AMAZING, the meat was tender and juicy, I was definitely pleased and happy that I ordered it. Thank you for such an awesome experience, we will definitely go back when we go back to visit our son. May God keep...
Read moreMy husband and I have never had the privilege of going to a Puerto Rican restaurant before, but we prefer international cuisine experiences over anything else so we were eager to try it during our week-long vacation to Fort Walton. Being that we are foodies and derive quite a bit of joy from trying as many new places as we can squeeze into a short week, this is the one place where we want to come back twice! My husband ordered the Thursday lunch special Castillos en salsa with yellow rice and oh sweet heavens it was phenomenal. I ordered Mofongo Relleno De Camarones al Ajillo which was a treat and incredibly flavorful. We went back to the counter after finishing our meal to order fried plantains. We will definitely be coming back for a second visit in just one week! Our fav restaurant so far down here.
UPDATE: We did go back. We just couldn’t leave Fort Walton without trying the tostones and pastelillos. HOLY COW were they amazing. This is the only restaurant in one week that we visited twice: let that...
Read moreI finally got the chance to dine at Papi's for lunch today. I have been dying to try it since they opened. My girlfriend and I met there for lunch today and oh my goodness it was INCREDIBLE! I was having trouble deciding between the two chicken dishes on the menu and at the recommendation of the young man at the register I went with the Cover it and Stuff It Chicken. It was tender, juicy and full of flavor not to mention a huge portion that I ended up taking half of home (a win for my hubby who wasn't able to join us for lunch)
I met the owner a few weeks before they opened at my restaurant and was thrilled that he was opening in my neighborhood in Fort Walton Beach. I cannot wait to try the Empanadas (they were sold out this afternoon) and items off the breakfast menu.
There was a steady lunch crowd in there today which made me very happy. Keep doing amazing things and welcome to the neighborhood! We will be...
