I moved down recently from Philadelphia, so naturally, I’ve been trying different cheesesteaks from different areas down here in Florida in hopes of finding a sandwich that’s close to what I remember from Philly. PhillyPhlava has pretty good reviews so I decided to take my father and mother and treat ourselves to a meal. Upon arrival, I liked the decor and the smells were great. We begin placing our order and halfway through we’re asked if we had cash. We did not, I asked why was that and was told they had a power surge and the credit card system was down. Completely understandable and I had no issues with that. It wasn’t their faults so these things happen. So we had to find an atm which became a nightmare due to the traffic. We get back and pay and our meals come out. This I where my complaint comes and has nothing to do with the establishment but the customer service etiquette. As we got our drinks, we noticed no straws. I ask what I assumed was the female manager where are the straws and was told they eliminated them due to saving sea turtles. Cool! I agree with that but felt some sort of attitude because I questioned it. We then enter small talk and I ask about maybe investing in those paper straws that are biodegradable. I was told they are just too expensive for them and I’ll just have to sip my drink. I felt this comment was not professional. What about those that might be handicapped and cannot sip their cup or grab their drink? Anyway, the food was ok but we found the fries to be a tad bit salty. So I requested if we could get a fresh batch with no salt to the same girl who I believe is the manager. I was told I should of requested no salt at the beginning of my order. Ok fine, but I was told she could just drop the original fries in the fryer to burn off the salt. Not cool since this will saturate it with even more oil. I explained because it was our first time here and because of the inconvenience of us not being able to use credit card and had to run out to find an atm, they should at least accommodate. We are talking about French fries and not something more expensive like a complete sandwich. The new batch was given to us with a stern look and we did not feel comfortable with our experience. My recommendations to the owner. This is not a jab to your establishment. My compliant is with the customer service that was received from your staff. Customer service is very important to keep clientele returning. This is important to making customers happy and returning to your establishment. Customers should feel happy and welcomed with their experience. Caution should be advised when stating personal opinions to customers especially in reference to items being too expensive for your establishment to have. We walked out without even receiving a goodbye and felt disliked because of our of the incident...
Read moreI wanna start by saying, I’m a Philly native, born and raised for 21 years there. I’ve tried cheesesteaks from probably 50-75 different restaurants/takeout in the philly/south jersey area. This place is incredible. I went in on a dime after catching the word “philly” out of the corner of my eye driving down the road. At first glance, before even looking at the menu, the environment of this place is awesome. Philly memorabilia everywhere, Philly brands everywhere, Philly attitude everywhere. I walked in and immediately could tell who the owner was, and asked what part of philly he was from. He comedically shot back with “I’m not from philly, I’m from Wisconsin, I’m apart of the witness protection program.” His Philly sarcasm and wit was apparent and I could tell this guy knew what he was doing. I ordered a cheesesteak, with a decent bit of toppings, and it only cost 12$! I’ve spent almost double that on cheesesteaks before because most places charge extra for toppings. For 12$ I got one of the best cheesesteaks I’ve ever had in my life. I can probably count on less than one hand the places I’ve had better cheesesteaks in my whole life, that’s how good this place was. My friend and I talked with the owner while he was making our food. He’s a character: always having something sharp to shoot back at ya for whatever you can think of to say to him. He’s a Philly guy for sure. My cheesesteak was almost perfect, I’d rate it a 9.8 out of 10. The meat was juicy, not greasy or soggy. The roll was incredible: I’m not sure if they’re flown in or are local, but they’re a great touch. The peppers and onions were perfectly cooked. My only issue with the whole order was the lack of ketchup, and that the lettuce was a big leaf of lettuce. These are minors things tho, and truthfully make no difference in the overall taste and quality of this cheesesteak. I topped off the cheesesteak with a classic hanks black cherry. I think I’ve had one or maybe two other cheesesteaks in Tampa since I’ve been here, and I can honestly say, I will not look elsewhere any longer because this...
Read moreOrdered 6 steaks and 3 fries. Delivered 5 steaks and 3 fries that were mostly raw potatoes. 1st the person that ordered called to tell them that we only got 5 steaks and were told well we only charged you for 5. In the mean time 2 people ended up splitting a steak. Then the person that paid called to make sure that he only was charged for 5 and that he didn't get a receipt. Was told we always staple it to the bag. Well always would mean this bag too which didn't have a receipt. After verifying that the charge was right hung up and started to eat and opened a bag of half cooked (at best) fries. Called back to complain and was told that they'd need to void my order and recharge for order without fries or could send some new fries. By the time they got here steaks would be gone so that didn't make since. Then some guy(I believe he said Pete) got on the phone and proceeded to tell how they never have a problem. Insinuating that the only problem was with us. After the guy who obviously loves to hear himself talk shut up a few minutes later as we had been asking him to let us speak, we requested that he just send out the sixth steak with new fries and he said sure and proceeded to tell us how we would have to pay for it. lol. I asked him to look at our order rate at their location and he agreed that we order all the time. I then told him that based on his response to a loyal customers concern that I didn't care how good the steak was, it would be the last time I ordered. A real joke in customer service. I despise bad service. I can understand a bad meal. That can be fixed. However, an idiot will always be an idiot. Last order...
