About three years ago, I tried out Pizza Rock from a friend's recommendation. I had several business and personal trips to New York City and was eager to try a local establishment that can mimic the city. Yet, this place is better then many of the pizzerias I sampled. First, when you walk in it carries this New York/Italian/Mom-Pop Ambience. There are many photos of NYC and Italy displayed on the walls. Plus, the professional graffiti and classic concert posters contribute to New York vibe. It feels like a restaurant right outside a subway entrance. There are plenty of TVs showing local sporting events too. Let's get to the pizza. They use quality ingredients and a wood fired oven. Pizzas are made for the customers to view. Watching the process is mesmerizing and the staff will talk to you and answer any questions. There is a plethora of ingredients to choose from and you can pick a Brooklyn or New York style. The styles have different cuts of mozzarella. The pizza sauce, dough, and ingredients are prepped daily. If you don't want to build, there are plenty of specialty pizzas to choose from. I tried them all, but my favorite is the Giulietta's Funghi and Isabella's Margherita. The specialty pizzas will change based on customer demand. I also believed a cheese pizza is the base of a great pie. When you add the other toppings, it makes it even better. How is the pizza, the best I ever had?! Every pizza I had is consistent and delicious. The other things on the menu include sandwiches like a Meatball or Philly Cheese Steak. A couple salads to try is Marty's Original Italian Chopped Salad or Greek. Keep in mind even the small salad is huge, will easily feed two. Full size will feed at least four people. On the appetizer menu the wings are unique. They are baked in pizza oven then fried with a assortment of sauces to choose from. Also try the cheesy garlic bread and meatballs to satisfy the appetite. For drinks they serve Coca-Cola products along with beer and wine. Being a regular I have got to know the staff well. Some have become friends. If you get to know the staff, they'll take you behind the counter and show you how to make pizza. This is especially fun for kids. Every time I walk through the door I am greeted like Norm from Cheers. With a name like Pizza Rock there is also a diverse selection of music from the 50s/60s/70s/80s/90s. The main genre is Rock (of course) but you'll also hear R/B, Disco, Dance, Country, and Pop to name a few. To wrap it up, I couldn't ask for a better experience with great people and food. I look forward to visiting the establishment knowing I will have a good time and feel like I'm hanging with family. I have had many laughs and will continue to support this local business. I introduced Pizza Rock to family and friends. My uncle said this was the best pizza he has ever had. Congrats to the new owners Jaimie and Darren, and thanks to the...
Read moreMost recent visit (03/2025), 2-stars: I recently visited your restaurant and ordered the Detroit-style pizza. While I was excited to try it, I was disappointed with the result. The interior of the crust was dense, doughy, and had a raw texture. We asked both the server and the kitchen about it, and were told this is typical for Detroit-style pizza due to the way it's baked in a pan. They assured me it was safe to consume, which I knew better than to have another bite.. as raw dough will absolutely cause an upset stomach.
I acted as though I wasn't familiar with the style to not sound argumentative or confrontational, but I’m actually pretty familiar with Detroit-style pizza, and while the dough is thick and baked in an oiled pan, it should still be fully cooked through — light and airy inside with a crisp bottom and caramelized edges. Unfortunately, this pizza was not properly baked and felt underdone. The cook offered to make another one for us to take home; however, I declined because he insisted nothing was wrong with it the first time and I did not enjoy it prepared this way (photos attached).
Prior experience, 3 stars: We arrived on a busy night and food took a while (which is completely fine). I ordered for a salad and kids pizza to come out first (for my 6 yr old), then later ordered our meals. The salad came out 45 mins later. Then another 20 mins, came everyone's meals, except for the kids pizza. I felt so bad a table of grown adults were eating while the hungry 6 year old had to watch. The pizza came out 10 mins later, and it frustrated me a little because I had asked for it first. Honestly, I was completely okay with the wait, just please help me get the kids fed...
Read moreI've been a fan of Pizza Rock since they first opened. I'm not a regular, but I have visited off and on over the years and watched it grow. This most recent visit was as good as always.
There's a lot more seating now. There's a large dining area to the right when you first enter the restaurant. It's a cool NY city vibe, and decorated with concert posters and street murals. The booths are large and comfortable. There's more dining to the left if you want a more cozy Italian dining experience. I didn't get that wonderful wood fire aroma that I initially had when it first opened. They used to have fresh baked loaves of bread for sale, but I haven't seen that for a long time. Fortunately, it still lures you in with the smell of garlic bread and pizza.
We were seated and immediately given a lunch menu at 2pm. They do have larger size pizza. Just ask them about it. The staff is very helpful if you have any questions. We split a half size order of Marty's Original Chopped Salad. It's seriously enough for 4 side servings. We never can eat it all. It's well worth the price. I love each and every ingredient. It's great! We also got a large NY Style Supreme pizza. We got half without black olives and ham. My husband doesn't like them on pizza. Anyway, it was so yummy! The crust had that wood fire oven taste that I love. Thankfully it wasn't charred like other brick oven pizza places, but I'm sure you can get it well done if you like it that way. You can definitely taste the good quality ingredients. The sausage had so much flavor, and the old world pepperoni was spicy as it should be. The mushrooms were fresh, and the ham was chunky. The cheese and sauce were perfect. What I loved even more was that the pizza heated up very well the next day and stayed perfectly crispy.
The prices may be higher than other pizzerias. I'll gladly pay more for good quality. This was worth it. I'm also a big fan of their cheesy garlic bread and The Rock pizza with the spicy Calabrian red peppers. Try it if you happen to be in the neighborhood. It's a...
