Hey friends, a new spot in Brandon, Los Chapos Tacos comes to my backyard. I read a lot about this restaurant from their other locations in Lutz and original in Tampa. Instagram had some great info about this new spot in East Hillsborough County. So let's dig in... The Mrs and I didn't have the kids. Wanted a mom and dad type meal. We wanted to enjoy what we were eating. I ordered four tacos, chips and queso, a steak quesadilla, platanos and a flan. First, we tried their famous Birilla taco, made from soft tender beef, cheese and fried on a flat top. It comes with an au jous type dipping sauce. The corn tortilla gave it good crunch and the food was very well seasoned. It's almost like a French dip but a Mexican French dip. They come in a pack of two. Definitely worth the buy, I could of ate more but I wanted to try more. Not spicy but very good The next was pork belly asian dressed taco with fresh onion, cilantro and cotija cheese. It was excellent. Wow, good spice. Seasoned well, no overly salty. Tender to the chew. Just perfect..A must eat. Next, a chipotle shredded chicken with a chipotle dressing. The tortilla was good, the Chipotle dressing was good but not enough. The shredded chicken was a lil dry. We also had the steak quesadilla, tender steak with tomato, onions, cheese, cilantro with a lil spice. It was very good. The steak was flavorful. Everything was cooked well. Extra lettuce, tomato and sour cream on the side. We also ordered the chips and queso. This was very good, queso had pieces of tomato and cilantro, melted very well. It was a must buy. Homemade tortilla chips with the right amount of salt. The platanos, my wife ate. I'm not a fan of any platanos to be honest. She said they weren't sweet but more savory. She was quite impressed. Last was the flan. This is my only issue. The flan came in a plastic container. Normal flan is cooked in a water bath in a glass container. The flan wasn't as flavorful. It lacked more caramel creme generally at the bottom of the dessert. It usually covers the dish. This one was a let down. We ate at home. Next time, we eat there we want to try the churros instead. Would I recommend this place, yes. Is it expensive, yes but you get value for what you eat. These people put their heart and soul into their food. Try something different, give back to the community. I do suggest you eat at the restaurant instead of at home. Thank you friends, the Mrs and I will return another time. It was definitely worth it...Until next time, friends, enjoy what...
Read moreToday was my first time trying Los Chapos Tacos, and I couldn't wait to get home to write this review. Now, I understand why so many people love their birria tacos. This newest location in Brandon happens to be their 3rd one. They have 2 other locations in Ybor City and Lutz.
I had to try the Mar y Tierra (or Surf & Turf) combo which comes with 1 taco de birria, one taco gobernador, and the queso fondue sauce for dipping. I wanted to try a little of both worlds. I just wasn't sure how big these tacos would be and didn't want to order too much. Well, I probably could have eaten 3 tacos but definitely not 4. Anyway, I'm so glad I got the combo. I absolutely loved both of these tacos. They had so much flavor. What surprised me the most was that the birria broth wasn't salty AF like other places. It was the perfect amount of salt for me. The flavors of the broth were all there. I even sipped up the rest of the leftover broth. It was great by itself. The beef birria taco was fried perfectly and had all that melted mozzarella goodness. The broth just added to the flavors without being overwhelming. The taco gobernador turned out to be my favorite of the two even though I was in love with both. It's like a beef birria taco except it has shrimp. It was a total game changer for me. That melted mozzarella mixed with the roasted poblano pico de gallo was so unique and tasty. The queso fondue was also a winner. So much so, that I placed a separate order just so that I could get some chips to dip in it. I didn't want to waste it. Oh, and the passion fruit drink was also very good. I'd get all of it again in a heartbeat.
The location has quite a bit of seating. They wisely added half booth seating along the wall to make more room. The decor is tropical with pink cushion seat bottoms. They have a couple of TVs for entertainment. The staff is amazing! They come over to see how you're doing. I didn't have to go back in line to order extra chips since I had cash. One of the lovely ladies just took it up to the counter and brought me the chips and change. The food seemed to be very authentic Mexican street food. The food was freshly prepared and hot when it arrived. I'm definitely...
Read moreFinally mustered up the courage to venture into the taco paradise of Los Chapos Tacos! I mean, their Instagram feed had me drooling like a bulldog in a bacon factory. The wifey and I were in the mood for a low-key munch fest, so we thought, "Hey, why not dive into the unknown and conquer these flavor-packed wonders?"
Let me tell you, this joint was as suave as James Bond in a sombrero. The moment we stepped in, we were greeted faster than a cheetah chasing its dinner. The place had more space than my hopes and dreams combined, with decor that could make Picasso green with envy.
Now, let's get down to business – the tacos. We attacked those beauties with the enthusiasm of a squirrel hoarding acorns for winter. We decided to be adventurous and tried everything from Hongos Asados to Camarones, Carnitas to Al Pastor, Tinga de Pollo to Chicharrones, and even the legendary Gobernador. Oh, and we couldn't resist diving into a bowl of guacamole and some mouthwatering queso fundido.
I must say, those tacos didn't disappoint. Each bite was a fiesta in my mouth, like a mariachi band playing the soundtrack of my taste buds' dreams. But, let me tell you about the triumphant trio that stole the show – the Hongos Asados, Carnitas, and Al Pastor. These three amigos deserve a standing ovation and a parade in their honor.
