Friday my wife and I went to Rosé's Cuisine in Bell Plaza, 2395 Tamiami Trl UNIT 204, Port Charlotte. (The owner's name is Rose'. Pronounced Ro-say. There is a diacritical mark above her name.) All I can say is WOW! What a great little place. It is not large on the inside. They have about 8 tables all together. Maybe they can seat 16 people...maybe more. The booths might be able to seat 2 couples. The first thing you notice is that it is clean and bright. We were greeted as we came in and asked if this was our first time there. The young lady then explained the different options they offered. The menu is not extensive, but it is very complete. I never tried Jerk Chicken, so I ordered that. I ordered it with rice and peas. It came with cabbage and sweet plantains. My wife ordered one of their specials of the week which was Sesame Chicken. No. Not the Chinese variety. This is Caribbean style! I was expecting the Jerk Chicken to be blazing hot. Nope! It had a background heat, but it was mild. My wife tasted mine and said she would order that next time. It was delicious! My wife's Sesame Chicken was much the same way in that it was not spicy at all. It had a pleasant sweetness to it with typical Caribbean spices. All in all the whole meal was DELIGHTFUL and it was very reasonably priced. Here is another surprise for you. The Tamarind Juice! It tasted like sour prune juice. It was not only surprising, but it was refreshing as well. I know I have never had a meal like this before and both my wife and I vow to be back soon. If you are ever in the area of Bell's Plaza stop in. You will NOT be...
Read moreThis was the worst Jamaican food I've ever had. I was excited to be able to get oxtail, which I make at home sometimes. The 4 little Oxtails I got had no meat, just bone and fat, not even one decent bite of actual meat. Had two chunks of chicken. Got pumpkin rice, which was good. Mac n cheese was terrible. Veggies with meal were so old that they were soggy not freshly crisp. (Paid $4 extra to get oxtail and the 2 chunks of chicken that came with it. ($20+ meal for rice and Mac n cheese, 2 chunks of chicken and 4 pieces of fatty bony oxtail). My son's Sesame chicken was ok and cooked fresh because it was a special. Everything else sits in containers in a glass enclosed area. The fried sweet dough for $1 was pretty good. Nothing was 'rock my socks off good' which is sad. I'm Jamaican and definitely know good Jamaican food. SUGGESTION: serve freshly made items with everything, not just the specials and dont serve such a cheap cut of oxtail where its all fat and bone. And, don't say you do. I watched her serve up my food in a to-go container for me to eat in the restaurant. I did not get a warm and friendly welcome nor did I feel that way while sitting and waiting for my dinner. Spent over $30 for this terrible meal. Needless too say, I won't be back nor will my son or any...
