After the fourth time being condemned to a 30+ minute drive-through experience, I decided it may be time to record my thoughts.
Slim Chickens is a restaurant that most I've met relate to a non-political Chic Fil A but in my experience, doesn't stop there at being a polar opposite. In short: Chic has a reputation of being very fast, and very efficient. Slim chickens is slow. Very slow.
To even understate this would be to say I've spent combined hours at this place, without eating inside the restaurant. It seems that every time I make an attempt to use the drive through I sit in my car watching the front vehicle at the window for an entire lunch break just to receive one or two boxes worth of take out. I had no idea why it took so long until I got frustrated enough to back out of the drive through and order inside, with hope it would be faster.
As it turns out it's not necessarily any quicker than the drive through but it certainly is more frustrating. I discovered that the interior of the restaurant was nearly empty, with no one in line inside. Yet the building was overflowing with yells of protest and argument from the back kitchen, leading me to believe that the slow service was due to the disagreements between the staff. So my 15 minutes of drive through waiting in addition to my 20 minutes of ordering inside landed me on the wrong end of a half hour disappointment.
To be fair the food here is great. Good enough that I've come back time again, knowing that the service is anything but convenient. The menu is always fresh and tastes wonderful. I guess the old saying "nothing worth having comes quick" is being kept alive by places like Slim Chickens. So if you don't mind idling in your car with nothing to do for nearly an hour, I want you to be happy and live your best life.
The question is though - whether you have the time to wait in a drive through, trapped with no foreseeable end in sight, or if you want to spend less than half the ordering time going five miles down the street passing many other chicken chains on the way.
To me the drive seems like the best option...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Slim Pickens in North Pensacola for lunch today and I must say, it was an experience that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere that set the tone for the rest of the evening.
The star of the show was undoubtedly their six-piece chicken wings. The wings were cooked to perfection, with a crispy exterior that gave way to succulent, tender meat inside. The sweet chili sauce was a delightful surprise, adding a kick of heat that was perfectly balanced by the sweetness. The honey barbecue sauce was equally impressive, with a rich, smoky flavor that complemented the wings beautifully.
Next up were the chicken tenders. They were incredibly moist and flavorful, with a light, crispy coating that was simply irresistible. Each bite was a testament to the chef's skill and attention to detail.
The grilled chicken wrap was another standout. The chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the wrap was packed with fresh, crisp vegetables. It was a satisfying, healthy option that didn't skimp on flavor.
The drinks were also a highlight of the meal. The peach iced tea was refreshing and not overly sweet, making it the perfect accompaniment to the spicy wings. The cranberry lemon lemonade was a unique and delicious twist on a classic drink. The tartness of the cranberry and the tanginess of the lemon made for a delightful combination that I couldn't get enough of.
In conclusion, my dining experience at Slim Pickens was nothing short of amazing. The food was exceptional, the drinks were delicious, and the service was top-notch. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quality dining experience in North Pensacola. I can't wait to go back!
I only wish I had taken some pictures. But we got involved in a conversation with the very nice man who recommended them as we were walking through the door. Our conversation lasted quite quite a while, so I was distracted and did not take pictures. I guess itâs a good...
Read moreAwwwnawww Slim Chickens you aren't gonna do us like this and me not leave a review. My wife grabbed some food for Football Sunday and when she got it home not only was the order incorrect, but the food was not good at all. My wife insists she specifically asked to just get the wings and not the meal since she was ordering sides as well. Well, of course we got the Meal we didnt want, on top of our Large Fries and Fried Pickles. They forgot the drink that should have come with the meal as well. The Fries were clearly old and maybe cooked twice because they were rubber. That soggy, chewy, stale French fries that I am sure everyone has had at east once. They also used this large box for our fries and immediately, I noticed that our fries barely covered the bottom of the tray. Not sure if this is how it is normally, but the amount either seemed too little or the box was way too big but that was the least of our worries. The chicken was also possibly cooked twice because the wings were like plastic. Very dry and hard! The Korean BBQ sauce was tasty though! The 8 wings was actually 5 Drumsticks, 1 Wing, and 2 broken Drumstick tops....Like with the broken bone sticking out of the bottom and little to no meat on them. Even the 5 Drumsticks that had meat on them were soo dry. Not sure how they get that way. If it is overcooking, or cooking them twice. Whatever it is, they were terrible. Then the Fried Pickles were also soggy. No crunch at all! Even floppy when picked up! The taste just wasn't there either. Something about them was off. I have no beef with Slim Chickens or reason to be extra harsh or make this stuff up. This is actually our first time trying them. We were just so disappointed with every aspect of our experienced that my wife and I agreed we should leave a review. Tried a couple wings and fries, and Pickles then threw...
