We've only had take-out from Taco mex until today. I usually order the Torta Cubano which is HUGE, and pretty awesome, but today I went with 2 chicken tacos and had them add chorizo- and should too because OMG! Sooo good. The tacos are tiny for $2.50 each with no sides, and I'd complain if they weren't such a beautiful thing. We also ordered the Taco Mex, which are 3 tortillas on a plate topped with refried black beans, avocado, pickled jalapenos, onions and tomatoes, and a thick layer of this amazing beef that has been finely chopped. You can pick them up, but you're going to get beans all over you. You might want to use a knife and fork. They have these huge bottles of sauce, one green, one red, both medium heat and excellent. Use them in abundance. The orange salsa you get with your chips are not what we're used to, but still pretty good. Thru take-out I've tried the enchiladas verde, which were fine, but not my favorite. Although the sauce and tortillas were good, the meat was dry. Otherwise, I will likely try other items, but it will be very difficult to not have those tacos again. Aside from that, the place is VERY colorful, the music is LOUD, the vibe is lively, and it is very clean. The waitress was nice, and spoke English very well, but she disappeared and we had to have another server get her so we could pay. When you're finished you can enjoy a walk through the market. Stop by the meats counter and get some freshly cooked chicharones to take with you. Oh, one thing you should know is that they do not have Margaritas, but they do have a beer selection. Also, this is not a standard Tex Mex restaurant like the others we have in Pensacola. It's more on par with restaurants we encountered while living in San Diego close to the border. If you are looking for authentic South of the Border food, I think you'll like this place. But get at least one taco and add chorizo....
Read moreFirts and foremost, if you think Chipotle, Moe's, Taco Bell, etc are real Mexican food this is not the place for you, in the other hand if you're looking for something close to being Mex food this is a place where you could find a variety of dishes in a large menu to experience a closer taste of South of the border and no freaking tx mex, keep in mind food in Mex varies by region and the length from cardinal points and state to state increase the recipe difference, this restaurant represent where the owners and, or culinary region came from, without know them I could venture to say central Mex, anyway we for once found a place with good classic food where you can seat indoors (climate controled) to eat, enjoy the food and the memory, no doubt there's many food trucks around town where you can also get good food, but not a decent place to seat down, the carne asada tacos are not too bad, I whish they make them like at San Jose in Mobile, but here at tacoMex the dinning area and restrooms hygiene are far better and combined with the fiesta decor inviting to come back. Stay tuned for more on this place, our breakfast chorizo con huevos and huevos a la mexicana were outstanding. 2nd visit late lunch I asked for the daily special dish, I got pork meat with nopales cooked in salsa roja with rice and beans, it wasn't hot, but very well seasoned, I wished they had an all you can...
Read moreTaco Mex Restaurant is located in the same building as their grocery store and the Vallarta Mexican Grill. Use the door to the left to access the grocery store, Taco Mex Restaurant is the middle door on the building and Vallarta's is on the right. This review is about Taco Mex and the attached grocery store. I have gotten food to go several times from this restaurant and have never been disappointed. I have to admit that my selections have been limited to the Carne Asada (Marinated Steak) Tacos and loaded Asada (Marinated Steak) Torta. My wife and I have also ordered the tamales wrapped in banana leaves. I thought that the price was reasonable for the items we ordered. The tortas and tacos are loaded and the tamales are large. All the dishes had an absolutely a wonderful flavor profile and consistent from visit-to-visit. The staff are friendly, courteous, and efficient. To go orders are prepared in a timely manner. There is a great grocery store next door that features pastries and a meat market. We have bought and enjoyed the pastries. I haven't bought meat at the meat market yet. I love to cook and can always find whatever ingredient I need when preparing Mexican recipes at home. The store also has a variety of spices, a ton of different dried peppers, a multitude of canned goods and also items like a tortilla press. Fun to browse while waiting for your...
