Visited the Southern Pig & Cattle on a week night in February 2024. I read some of the reviews before we decided to visit. The reviews were kind of mixed with some folks raving and others painting a picture how bad it was. But there were way more positive reviews than negative. So we went with our gut and gave them a try. The inside had the rustic feel of your typical BBQ or steak house. It wasn't overly large, but probably large enough for their needs. The menu was a two sided, laminated card that was easy to hold. Southern Pig was quite busy when we arrived and it seemed to be all at the same time. So the staff seemed somewhat overwhelmed. But the staff worked very well together to help each other where they could. As such, we dealt with three different staff members, who did their best to serve us as quickly as possible. Although service wasn't the fastest, it was quite good considering the crowd that seemed to walk in around the same time. We didn't get a large meal and instead went with sandwiches. We had one pulled pork sandwich on garlic bread and a baked potato. Although they didn't provide real butter for the baked potato, instead serving the fake butter. As well as a brisket sandwich on garlic bread with Baked beans. We used sauce on both. I personally tried both sandwiches and both were very good. Other than the sides being reversed on the two meals, it was quite good. Actually it was one of the better meals we've had since we haven't been frequenting BBQ restaurants all that often. So when we do, they are that much better. They have a salad and soup bar, but we didn't try it this time. We were more focused on BBQ. Although it didn't look bad at all. There is a drive through window for folks on the go. And the wife said that the ladies restroom was clean. Southern Pig and Cattle turned out like we had expected it to be. It was a good meal. You always think that it could be less expensive, but here it really wasn't bad. Even though we didn't go for the larger meals. The sandwiches with one side seemed just right. I ate my whole meal and didn't leave felling like I needed more. It was about right. The food and service were good considering the Rush they were encountering at the time. All in all, we found the Southern Pig to be what we expected. A nice meal in a rustic setting, that doesn't break the...
Read moreMe and my family had a early dinner. Out of the 3 of us nobody was happy with the food or the service. The server was not the friendliest. It wasn't busy and he kept trying to rush us to order knowing we were waiting for one person. Our food came out super quickly before we could even take 3 bites of our salad. Normally you would think that's a good thing but I don't think the food could be properly cooked in that amount of time. Other than the salads which my dad ended up throwing that up soon after we left. We ordered the brisket and my sister ordered the pulled pork sandwich. I ordered the 10 oz steak. For a restaurant that's supposed to be known for its meat the meat was equivalent to drive-through food. The steak was unflavorable in most parts and then some of the parts taste like pure salt. You could tell it was a cheap piece of meat. It wasn't tender at all it was super chewy and I ordered it medium rare. The food felt like it was cooked in the microwave. I wasn't going to say anything but as I was mentioning the food quality being poor the server happened to overhear me. He later came up and said he was going to go talk to the chef about the quality of the food. When the server came back he mentioned that the chef said it was fine and that it was cooked in the oven and nobody else had complaints. I was kind of annoyed because I wasn't even going to say anything. The fact that he took it upon himself to try to rectify the situation not even knowing why I didn't like the food. Then came back and told me nothing was wrong with it and it was my fault basically. The stake was expensive so if a customer doesn't like it you should try to rectify the situation by either re-cooking it or reimbursing some of the cost. At the very least offering a free dessert or something. I would never go back. The food was poor quality and I would be afraid to get sick the way the cook it. Edit: sister told me her dog at the leftover meat and got...
Read moreThere is a BBQ place in Syracuse NY called Dinosaur BBQ. If you order the combo ribs, brisket, and pulled pork dinner with the 2 sides and cornbread you will receive a platter of food so big it will make you feel like a little kid in comparison. (around $20) It's embarrassing to be in front of it. You feel like a pig yourself... REALLY. PLUS everything down to the fries and cornbread is scratch-made from homegrown recipes and meats smoked outside in plain sight, not boiled, baked and liquid smoke added. Awarded best in USA. A tough act to follow. So I tried to order a similar meal from this joint today. It took two meals to make this combo around $30. The baby back ribs appeared to come from a baby pig. I have never seen ribs this small. At first I thought it was a McRib out of the bun, but then I seen the mini bones. Boiled and I can still taste the liquid smoke. The pulled pork was dry and shredded so small it could have been anything. The dry brisket was chewy and lacked the real smoked flavor "14 hours" would have given it. Fries were undercooked from frozen, Coleslaw fine chopped, wet and sweet, cornbread was sweet corn CAKE and the beans were sweet enough be dessert. Portions are incredibly small for the price. I am still hungry. What a joke. $36 down the tubes. Don't waste your time. Don't trust all the cars in their lot, this place is another joke, just like Sonny's. You will get better BBQ from the mom and pop places and roadside stands, if you dare. Unless you are like the rest of the crowd chanting "If it ain't sweet,...
