Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Florida

I used to go to this location often because I actually like Steak 'n Shake's food. However, this particular location has a habit of regularly forgetting the condiments that I ask for. I've gone here multiples times in a week and had them forget every single time.

However, what truly inspired me to stay away from this location was when I'd just gotten off work. I worked the graveyard shift at McDonalds, so I decided to grab a burger before I went home. I waited in their drive-thru for a total of 15 minutes before anyone even came to the window to take my money, with the cashier offering only the excuse "Sorry, we're trying to get stuff put away." Let me note that I was the only one in the drive-thru, with no one even pulling up behind me. This was about 6:07AM. It didn't bother me much because my feet were hurting and I was just happy to be sitting down. But then I got my food. I noticed about halfway to my house that the fries were cold. I was a little upset, but I didn't feel like turning around because I knew the sandwich would at least be alright. I couldn't have been more wrong. The sandwich was burnt, and I do mean burnt. The bread was black, the meat was black, and the cheese had actually started to turn brown. It was at this moment that I was furious. I called the store and asked to speak with a manager and was told that "there's no managers before 7AM." Let me repeat that: "There's no managers before 7AM." In otherwords, these crew members are just left to their own devices so they can serve me inedible food after I wait for 15 minutes when I'm the only one in the drive-thru? I called corporate and they promised to "take care of it," although I highly doubt that they did anything besides send me this gift card.

There's another Steak 'n Shake further west on 60, and I highly recommend going to that one, because the service here is atrocious. Avoid it...

And back to one star...

Over this place. Their food is actually great and possibly, other locations get it right but this location, over and over, can't pack a bag with your order. And it's the same mistakes over and over. Maybe SnS's menu is too complicated. Maybe waiting for fifteen minutes in the drive-thru is reasonable, maybe their great food is worth the wait and the hassle of not getting everything.

Maybe not. Avoid this location. It's a mess and won't likely be fixed soon.

Avoid the Valrico Steak n Shake. It's not worth the trouble. Trust me, I've given them more than enough chances.

This review went from one star to five stars for one reason, Mary, the assistant manager from Valrico. When I had a bad experience there, I called the store. No one answered. When I called the national line and filed a report, no follow up. But I liked the food. So I went back and talked to her, she made it all right and now, I'm a regular customer at her store and have visited another. In other words, these are genuine people who want to take care of their customers.

The food is great. It's priced well and the options, dining in with table service, taking it to go or drive through are all excellent as well.

But like most businesses, it comes down to people. Mary is one of the good ones. I highly recommend Steak n' Shake for great food and even better...

The inside of this place is so nasty, everything is sticky, the floor , the chairs , the tables , all sticky and nasty . You must order through a kiosk and get your own drink with a barcode receipt that dont give you enough time to even fill your cup up , forget about a refill, and you go pick up your own order of food , nothing like steak n shake used to be. There is no server, no hostess, no personal interaction, the food is always cold, and SUPER GREASY , I refuse to order hamburgers anymore because they always are still red and not cooked in the middle , that is gross to me. I only still come through the drive through because my son likes their chicken tenders which arent very good in my opinion but , I will say though there is a lady who works there who is ALWAYS so KIND and friendly, always makes me feel good when I see her there and is the only other reason I go back. HUGE SHOUT OUT TO MISS CAROL ! YOU ARE FANTASTIC ❤️ You deserve so much better of a working environment. Keep smiling and being you! If service was based on just you it would be 5 stars plus!!
