I've been here several times and recommended it as well. I work just down the street and also live close by. The food has always been great. Today was no exception. The service however? We came from work with about 12 people, most arriving about the same time but I was one of the stragglers. It wasn't terribly busy by 4 pm but the wait staff was not on their game. They were slower and not as attentive as I'm accustomed. Several new wait and bar staff it seemed. Finished appetizers, glasses and plates piled up. Normally we would all have had 1 to two drinks more, but the servers kept disappearing. I had a specialty drink made and it was excellent. I reordered from a different person, she said she knew exactly what it was because of how it was entered. So I accepted that. When I got the drink, it didn't taste the same. The waitress was gone again so I went to the bar to the bartender I talked through what I wanted with the first time. She disappeared as I walked up. I waited. Another bartender asked if they could help and I politely said I'd wait for the female who made my first drink. She returned and somewhat argued with me that the drink was the same. It was only my second drink and I had gone no further than tasting it. It didn't taste the same, and I didn't appreciate her basically insisting that it did. I stirred it, tried it again and it was not the same. She took the drink and tossed it with a whole lot of "f-you" attitude and said talk to your server to order something else. Thank goodness the food was good because the service has slow and the attitude was pathetic. Food 5 , service 3 bartender attitude 1 . Couldn't bring myself to rate the place 3 because I like the food and the vibe. Step the service back up and help the bartender realize a rejected drink isn't a personal attack. She should have been much more professional or better at concealing...
Read moreA small group of friends and I ate here last Friday, and we were immediately taken aback by the complete lack of sanitation and social distancing presented. I've visited here dozens of times prior to COVID being an issue, but I was just dumbfounded at how they approached this situation.
It appears as if the outdoor seating is somewhat socially distanced, but indoor seating is completely void. Every table was filled (including the barstools at the bar), traditional menus were being used, and not a single mask or pair of gloves was being used by ANY staff we interacted with or saw. Despite state and local regulations being in place, TBBC (at least the Westchase location) willingly chose to ignore them.
As an absolute shocker, it's revealed that one of its employees tested positive for COVID today.
The food is fine. The beer's great. Our server was friendly and funny. But the entire situation came off as TBBC not caring about the safety of their patrons, and instead they opted to filter as much revenue as possible while keeping extra cost down. Their willing negligence (I have to consider it willing at this point, as I cannot fathom stupidity this oblivious to call it ignorance) put the patrons that support them at an incredibly higher risk for infection. I dare say that this specific location particularly caters to a middle-aged and older crowd as well.
Granted, it was our decision to eat there - it was our decision to leave the house as well. After the news of one of their infected employees broke, I felt obligated to write this review, as it can potentially prevent things from being worse. Due to their actions and showing of true colors, and despite being a considerable fan of their beer, I can imagine I'll avoid them for the...
Read moreThis is a review based on the time I tried to go there on December 27th 2018 at 12:30 in the afternoon.
I sat at the bar for about 8 minutes while the bartender slowly made a few previously ordered cocktails, never acknowledging me other than a brief moment of eye contact which was quickly diverted back to the drink she was making. I asked for a drink menu and was informed relatively shortly that anything with a mug stamp on it or an X over it was out of stock. This only left about 6 of the 18 or so listed beers available. These were all the same offerings they can and 2 utterly uninteresting brews a beer aged on strawberry granola and a peppermint beer. While their standard offerings are good I've been drinking them since they were 2 bucks pint in the original (and best) Ybor City location so I generally come for the collaborations and the one off's but figured I'd still get a reef donkey and some food. 5 minutes later I walked out when the bartender still hadn't acknowledged me.
Overall I'm thoroughly unimpressed with the beer selection and disgusted by the service. No one offered me a menu. No one smiled. No one seemed the least bit interested in displaying any hospitality. They were not busy. There were 3 other people at the bar and 4x 2-top tables.
As a long time patron who drank his first legal beer in 1996 at the downstairs bar I have to say the ethos John once fostered with a beaming smile is all but gone now. Everything changes and it's likely some will feel TBBC has changed for the better but I'll always recall what it was and wish it...
