For starters, this is a very busy establishment. Obviously, they're quite popular. They don't have table service. You order your choices, tell them roughly where you'll be sitting, and they bring it out to you, carry out style. That doesn't take long, probably 15 or 20 minutes depending on the size of your order. They have a separate line for drinks so you don't have to get in line again. They have bar seating, inside seating, screened in seating, and outside seating. We sat outside. Unfortunately, there's not much escape from the heat inside, but they have fans blowing semi-cool air around, so it's not unbearable. While they have a limited menu, the food is really good. Especially if you like shrimp, which is their main attraction. The outside seating is cute. Their tables are a little low for the stools they have set at them, but after looking under the tiki umbrellas, and the history this place has with its customers is awesome. Over the years people have written their names, and the dates they visited. One couple appeared to have had a date there 4 or 5 years ago on Valentine's Day, and have visited there every Valentine's Day since then, and have also since gotten married. I found that to be exceptionally sweet. I'm not a fan of shrimp, but I met up with a friend I hadn't seen in a few years, and got the tilapia. It was seasoned nicely, cooked to perfection, and broke apart oh so perfectly. Get a bag of chips, or another side with your orders if you want more than just the entree. The beverages are decently priced, and you're not going to break the bank if you put back a few, especially with their buckets. If you like cocktails or mixed drinks with your meals, this isn't the place for that. It's a wine and beer establishment with a decent tap selection. They also have sodas, and of course, water. I don't expect myself to eat there again, because of their limited menu, and I am a picky eater. But, I would be more than happy to meet up with my friends, and have a couple drinks at least. If you like places with a rich history, great atmosphere, and shrimp - this is...
Read moreFirst, I would point out that the one star review from someone with the initials JP describes a waitress taking his order, followed by an hour is so before the food arrived. This is not how orders are taken at The Freezer so it is obvious he has never been there.
We ate there in early-mid March 2024. You place your order at a counter and tell them where you are sitting and when your order is ready someone delivers your food to your table that doesn't work the order counter. The place was swamped with customers. We found some people about to leave and grabbed their table as soon as they got up. We then ordered at the counter and were not surprised when they told us the slow expected delivery of our food. Our food actually arrived about 30 minutes later rather than the 45 minutes they said to expect. Like all good businesses they preferred to beat expectations rather than give an optimistic time that they knew they would miss.
We got the steamed shrimp and soup. We wanted to get the smoked mullet dip, but due to being swamped it had sold out. The food was outstanding. Most places overcook shrimp until it's rubbery and doesn't actually taste like shrimp anymore. There is a very short sweet spot during cooking where the shrimp is perfect. They nailed it. Up until then I can't remember ordering shrimp out that was cooked properly, like I do at home. That attention to detail when swamped with orders from a restaurant with all its tables full and lots of people waiting to grab any open seats is rarely seen. It was so crowded we didn't linger so others could grab our table like...
Read moreI personally don't like & am not a 'huge fan' of throwing all and any recyclables away with regular trash in the same bin. Especially when a huge number of cans, bottles, etc. can be recycled and reused for continuous use. Just put all of the recycling cans and bottles in a huge bin and not mixed in with trash. While I liked the atmosphere, I was not a big fan of the limited lunch menu. Being a local in the area that visits here weekly...they don't mind eating here. For outsiders living on the northeast coast of the state, I would personally find other local seafood restaurants in the area to dine at..not just this one. While I didn't mind eating indoors, it would've been nice to have a table with a view. The big one was the number of items on the menu. It wasn't just on how good the food was or how big the servings were. I didn't like the fact that there were not enough food entrees on the menu for kids or fairly picky eaters. The pretzel would've been gone had it not been smothered with a thin layer of dip sauce all over. One of the staff members dealing, of whom was serving food and bussing tables came out with not being nice one bit. I didn't care what his reason or excuse was. The scenario of the person serving our ordered entrees should've handled that certain situation way more maturely and talked nicer and not rudely!! The end. That person needs time away from work to get a handle on their feelings, emotions, frustration, etc and get it...
