There has been some buzz on the Street as several friends have recently told us about this great restaurant on Bayshore... THE MED ... Just returned from our first time there and I must say..."Fantastic!" This new spot hits all the high notes.... Menu, Venue and Service! Bravo! A perfect combination of Casual elegance, romantic warm and cozy, delicious food and friendly, attentive, and professional service. They truly have their act together here and seem like folks that are professional and long-time restaurateurs. First impressions matter and the hostess; Leslie, was super friendly, super quick in getting us a table and made the extra effort to laugh and joke with us and make us feel welcome. The Owner/Manager, an Italian gentleman from Puglia, named "Ciro" also warmly shook our hand and welcomed us in. The bar looked great but our party was seated outside in this very warmly lit patio area. It's hard to describe without seeing it, but they've got the venue lit perfectly, small fire pits along with warm lighting create a super romantic vibe, while a single table lamp allows for a well illuminated table in-which to see your meal. Again, perfectly executed! The five of us each ordered something different, Lamb chops, Chicken, Pasta, clams, Veal Shank, and some tasty apps, too. Just done right! All flavorful, cooked properly, not over seasoned or salted, just allowing the flavor of each dish to shine without an over indulgence of culinary shenanigan's.... IMHO, the way Mediterranean food should be prepared. As a thought, perhaps since Ciro is from Puglia, Italy, so near to Greece, his choice and cooking style reflects his understanding of the influences of both Italian and Greek "Mediterranean" preparation, as he so well combines these two cultures and cuisines.... Yes, of course... "The MED"! Thank you so much for a great experience, as everyone was so nice and Ciro stopped by our table several times to chat and made us feel very welcome with stories of his life in Puglia. But that's not all that was great. Adding the proverbial icing on the cake.... Playing a nylon stringed, hollow body acoustic guitar through-out our meal was Nikola Vukovic. Nikola is apparently a regular entertainer for many years in and around Naples. We had never heard him play. OMG!! Who is this guy!! Fan-freakin-tastic! I think we might need to start following this guy around to hear him play wherever he goes!! All he did was just play the most wonderful renditions of great solo guitar classics, Mellow Santana, Bryan Adams, etc. The guy so much added to the cozy and romantic vibe. Just again, So very great! And last but not least our bubbly, professional, attentive and flaw-less waitress, Sarah. Thank you for being patient with all our requests. First time here, but we immediately booked a reservation for 6 of us again for next Sunday night... my wife, Josephine and I can't wait to return. Of course my only concern is that as word spreads, this will become a super-desirable mad-house hot-spot to go to here in Naples. But in this case, it will be well-deserved as these folks are getting it done right. Bravo to...
Read moreMy husband and I went to The Med and dined at their outdoor patio. This was the first time I have eaten outside. It was very pretty, yet comfortable. They had many 2-4 tops. Nice wooden table for a large party with wicker chandeliers, and loungers near the bar area. It was a little chilly, so they have heaters and also blankets if needed. The night we went they had live music (guitar player) which further enhanced the atmosphere.
The starters were the reason I came here. My previous visit with friends, we just ordered lot of appetizers, small plates and drinks. This time, we ordered the mussels and bruschetta. The sauce on the mussels was delicious. I wish I ordered more bread just to soak up the sauce, but I still had my dinner to eat. I ordered the eggplant Parmesan and my husband order the grouper dish. The eggplant was soft (no skin??) and the marina sauce should be bottled and sold. The grouper came with risotto that was well prepared with a hint of lemon. Even though the portions weren’t big, they were sufficient. We had cappuccino and pistachio tiramisu for dessert. Wow!! Great combination of flavors. The meals were traditional dishes but with a modern touch. Loved the whole night - The ambiance, the service, and the food. Highly recommend and definitely...
Read moreI typically don't write reviews of restaurants, because there are so many variables for each dinner's experience. In this case I feel it's important, particularly in this day in age. Our party of 8, with a reservation experienced a mess up with our table. Not good of course. But how the restaurant responded, in particular the manager, is not a very common thing any more. He got right on it, apologized, got us seated in a little seating area and bought us all a drink (note they only serve beer and wine). We waited for another table arrangement to become available (about 40 minutes), and we were seated. The manager came by again apologized and bought us another drink. That's called an explanation mark on great service. I've dinned at many restaurants in Downtown Naples and have experienced similar situation, but never once has the manager ever bought me a drink. This is old school restaurateur-ship. The server was very good, and the food was very tasty. The pricing was reasonable if you wanted just a "light" night, up to higher priced entrees in the 40s. The outside atmosphere was fun and festive. All 8 of us said we would be back, based on the how the very bad situation was turned around to an overall great...
