Monday 2005.03.31 Went with my wife to TooJay’s In Lake Sumter Landing for a late afternoon/evening lunch at 17:30.
Parking was plentifully available on Canal Street, and there was no wait in the restaurant, although a second staff member had to remind the first staff member that we were standing at the greeting podium waiting for a table.
Once seated, we were greeted by one of the most animated servers I have ever experienced: “Erich”. Erich was highly conversant, enthusiastic, and humorous. He brought our choice of drinks quickly (I wanted a cup of coffee and he responded with a fresh brewed cup, and refilled it later on request).
Erich brought my salad and I was able to eat it and experience a nice relaxing interval with my coffee before the entree arrived: Fish and Chips for me, and a Pastrami sandwich for my wife. The fish was two good-sized pieces of cod with a hot and well-cooked crispy coating. (There was a quartered lemon for condiment, but I kinda missed the Malt vinegar to which I grown accustomed for fried fish.) There was tartar sauce on the plate; OK but not remarkable. The French fried potatoes were totally acceptable, but nothing to write home about.
My wife’s pastrami sandwich was acceptable, but she wanted it to have accoutrements such as cheese, coleslaw, and dressing, which TooJay’s elected not to use (maybe we should have ordered the Reuben sandwich). Each of us received a dill pickle on our plates. The pastrami sandwich came with an order of batter-dipped fried onion rings. These were also good, but not remarkable.
So, all in all, it was an enjoyable afternoon/evening out with my wife: We enjoyed our food, and it was sufficiently generous in portion size that we were able to take home 1/2 of each serving for the next day. Erich made our interaction with the restaurant a pleasure, and we left $50 + $10 tip lighter: That just seems to be the cost of a meal outside of the house in 2024/2025. This was our second trip to TooJay’s and we are likely to return for the good food and...
Read moreToday November 23, 2024 around 3:30 pm. We frequently din here and over the years have become familiar with most the people who work at this practical 2 Jay's. Always greated with a smile and made to feel right at home. We were greeted with a smile and "so good to see you" by Doreen who is the Host. The food is fabulous and they certainly give you enough for a second meal. The management there has always be very committing and very helpful. Pride and family is the words that comes to mind when we din there. But today was a different story. Doreen greeted us with her smile and help seat us. The restaurant was about half full at the time. We were greeted by our server a young lady who we had never seen before. She brought us drink and took our order never to be seen from again. 35 minutes passed. Two other gentleman severs came over to ask if we were OK. They were busy getting their orders in for their tables and getting order out to their customers timely fashion. We never saw our sever again and we did even get our food. We soon got up and left. Being a former sever/ manager in a food severs. I can safely say, she didn't want to be working. Storming around and slamming kitchen doors, like a child having a tantrum. We have had excellent service on a Saturday morning during one of their business days. So we knew right away this young lady was having a bad day. But a bad days or a extremely business day don't even should never effect your severs when dealing with the public. As for the manger who spoke to my husband. Remember, not every customer with a complaint is trying to be a prick. Some like yourselves are calling so you can correct the problem for the next time around. We look forward to dining at 2 JAY'S again in the future. Hopefully with better service...
Read moreYesterday we had a terrible experience at this restaurant. We were seated quickly as there were only a few diners at the time we arrived. After ten or so minutes of waiting for someone to acknowledge that we were there, I hunted down the hostess and asked her if someone was coming to our table. She asked me what I needed and I told her I want someone to take the order. She asked where we were sitting even though she had just seated us and she should have remembered because the girl with the vacuum who was sweeping next to the table we were headed to, hit me in the groin with the handle of the vacuum which we all found quite amusing. The waiter took the order and I also placed an order for a corned beef sandwich to go. When the corned beef sandwich and the Reuben we ordered for lunch arrived the disappointment with this place really began. My wife's Reuben was scantily adorned with meat but heavy on sauerkraut. My sandwich was pretty much the same but the meat was very fatty. I called the waiter over and told him that the many times we'd been to the restaurant, the sandwiches were so thick that I would have to squeeze it to fit in my mouth and I showed him the fat. I sent it back and he replaced it with another which could have been the one I sent back as it looked the same. I cancelled the take out order and I asked for the check. I noticed the up charge for the bowl of matzo ball soup as opposed to a cup was $1.50 even though the menu said $1.00. I didn't complain and paid the bill. I won't be going back to this restaurant again. In retrospect, the pickle...
