Overrated! We visited a few times since they opened, to support our local restaurants, unfortunately this place continues to spiral down hill.

After recently learning they had a 4.5 star rating, we decided to give them another try this evening. The hostess was very plesant and eager to seat us. Despite it being Taco Tuesday, and drinks 1/2 price, the bar area was completely empty and there were approximately 9 other patrons in the entire restaurant, at approximately 7:00 pm.

After being seated for a few minutes, a food runner delivered a basket of tortilla chips and a small dish of what was to be salsa to our table. Deja vu quickly emerged. Not only were the chips extemely stale, a bit discolored and tastless. so was the days old unflavored jelly like paste they called salsa.

Our waitress, Brianna, (as displayed on her name tag) approached our table less then enthusiastic to serve us, clearly exhibited by her unfriendliness and rudeness. I ordered an unsweetened ice tea and was given a glass of water with a hint of tan. I asked the waitress to kindly switch the drink and I was sternly told "that was it, there was no more ice tea and they were not making anymore, so pick something else". I ordered a coke and was given a diet coke in a very obvious dirty glass.

After several minutes, and our waitress was nowhere to be found, I asked the food runner to kindly bring me a glass of coke in a clean glass. After several minutes our waitress approached our table, never acknowledged the drink issue, nor did she apologize, she simply slammed the glass of coke down on the table and quickly walked away.

The runner serves our dinners. One dish consisted of 3 shrimp tacos with avocado and a side of rice and beans. As if my appetite hadn't already diminished, I was totally disgusted by the decaying brownish colored avacado slices, with several dark brown spots that topped the 3 shrimp tacos that were filled with partially shelled undevined shrimp tales, a pinch of cabbage and a pinch of Pico. Disgusting and to add further insult, the side of black beans was equivalent to approx 1 oz of tastless black slimey water with a couple of black beans. The rice was nothing short of a overcooked mold of mush.

As if the horrible food served, the blantant unprofessionalism and rudeness of the untrained waitress, Brianna wasn't enough, we were presented with a check that the restaurant had added a surcharge and failed to alert the customer! 🤣 Deceptivess...

This is a medium-large sized restaurant located in a plaza in West Wellington, so parking is not an issue.

They have a large bar and in the center of the restaurant, right by the entrance, and two spacious dining rooms on each side of it. I love their décor, and above all the nice paintings on the walls, but unfortunately, the look is all I liked about this place.

We came here one afternoon during the week for HH, which they run from 12 to 6pm on weekdays. There was a sign posted on a window advertising the specials for the HH: 50% off all alcoholic drinks and just two appetizers (jalapeno peppers and classic nachos), so we both ordered a margarita and the jalapeno poppers to share.

The jalapeno poppers were not bad, but the drinks were very bland (same for the salsa that came with the complimentary tacos).

Although we noticed that their prices are on the expensive side, we decided to try their Street Tacos with carne asada (coming with Spanish rice and pinto beans), just to have a better idea about their food. The meat didn’t taste fresh, and was still better than the rice and the beans though…: the rice was tasteless, the beans were obviously simply taken out of a can.

Although the place was almost empty, it was very difficult to get the staff’s attention, and once we got the bill we noticed that the jalapeno poppers were charged at full price. Thinking that it was a mistake, we brought it to the bartender’s attention, who explained that the poppers were not in HH and claimed not to know anything about the board on their window indicating otherwise.

So, I went outside to take a pic and showed it to her just to hear back that “that was probably an old offer” – that’s it, not only she didn’t decide to charge us as advertised by them, she didn’t even think of calling the manager to discuss the problem.

Considering the “service”, their high prices and the fact that the food wasn’t the greatest, we won’t be back: there are other Mexican restaurants that not only are authentic but also...

VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTING 👎🏼 First time we went with some friends of the owner and everything was beyond delicious and beautiful, with exceptional service. Since that first experience was definitely one to remember and to repeat, I decided to make a reservation to celebrate a friend’s birthday at the restaurant, but unfortunately and to our surprise things didn’t go as well as the first time. To begin the night, we ordered the delicious street corn which came cold and felt like if it was sitting somewhere for a long time until someone ordered it and got that, not fresh nor warm corn. Later on, my guest ordered the stake ranchero but instead she got something else that the server couldn’t even recognize, then the manger came and quoting her, she said “oh that’s the steak tampiquno , but that’s good too”. For dessert we ordered the churros because the first time we tried them they were delicious and served with chocolate and caramel sauce (as shown in the menu’s picture), but unfortunately this time they were nothing compared to that time. The server explained that the restaurant had been trying different types of churros, “some are short, some are long”, to which I just said “then, the kind we got tonight are the least favorites”. At the end we were asked by the server how everything was. I said, unfortunately not so good, because it looks like we have to come with the owner’s friends to be offered a high quality service. Then, the manger came to our table and she said “she said she was sorry but the restaurant was short in staff that night” I truly understand that, but we paid $120 dollars (which is a lot of money) and deserved to be offered a good quality service, even though if we are not friends with the owner.

REPLYING to the restaurant answer to my review: I actually did addressed the issue right when it happened and I did it in private… but nothing seemed to...

We arrived a little after 6 and were immediately seated. Our server came over to get drink orders. We asked for a minute. He literally came back a minute later. We hurriedly ordered something. But he also wanted our food order. We added guacamole as a starter and said we would wait to order mains. He came back again before the guac arrived. We finally had to tell him we would flag him down when we were ready to order. This is why I gave 3 stars. There were open tables, so it was not like he had to move us along to get more people in. The guac came out amazingly fast, which let us know it was not "made to order," not that Tulum claimed that just what we have come to expect. It was also not chunky and a bit wet. In other words, it was just "OK." He also got our entree orders. I ordered the Pina Maya - a charbroiled half pineapple filled with chicken, steak, peppers and onions covered in melted cheese and grilled pineapple. It was good but a little light on the meat, heavy on the vegetables. And cheeses helps everything. Ted got the enchilada Verde. They were average. We both commented that the side of rice was dry. His refried beans were good, though. I love Mexican food; I always say it is the one cuisine that is difficult to mess up. I'm not saying Tulum messed it up but saying we have definitely had better. So the interesting thing at this point was the server, who had been hovering until getting our orders, didn't come back until we flagged him for the check. I know there are staff difficulties all over so we'll take that into account. We will try a different place the next time we want to dine Mexican.
