During a recent visit to Skillets in Wellington, Florida, I had high hopes for a satisfying breakfast, but unfortunately, the experience fell flat. I ordered the French Toast Platter, which turned out to be a disappointment. The French toast was bland and lacked any real flavor, while the accompanying eggs were similarly tasteless, missing the crucial touch of seasoning. The bacon, however, was the sole redeeming element of my meal, cooked to perfection with a satisfying crunch.
My wife opted for the Belgian Waffle Platter, which echoed my experience. The waffle itself was underwhelming, and the eggs again lacked any discernible seasoning or flavor. Even my daughter’s cheese quesadilla left much to be desired, falling short of basic expectations with a lack of freshness and taste.
A friend who joined us ordered the Denver Skillet, and sadly, it followed the same pattern: a well-presented dish with no seasoning or flavor to speak of. The one bright spot in our group’s meal was the avocado toast ordered by my friend’s girlfriend. It was the only dish that had a decent level of taste and balance, though still not extraordinary.
To Skillets' credit, the presentation of the food was appealing and visually inviting. However, presentation alone cannot make up for the serious lack of seasoning and overall flavor. For a breakfast spot, seasoning should be fundamental, and it was surprising that every dish, with the exception of the avocado toast, felt bland and unmemorable.
In conclusion, while Skillets offers a visually appealing dining experience, the most important aspect—the taste—was missing. It’s a shame because with a few adjustments to seasoning and flavor, the potential for a great meal is certainly there. Until then, Skillets falls short of being a destination I...
Read moreMy husband and I are always looking for new breakfast places to try, we noticed this place just opened fairly close to our house so we thought we'd give it a try. Boy were we disappointed. I ordered the French vanilla iced coffee to start off with and it had no flavor whatsoever. For our food I ordered the Veggie Goat Cheese Omelette, he ordered the biscuits and gravy, and we ordered the pancakes with cinnamon crust for our toddler. For "Goat Cheese" being in the name of the omelette there was barely any in it, my husband had to load up the biscuits and gravy with salt and pepper just for it to taste good, and the “cinnamon crust” on the kids pancake was just cinnamon sprinkles. My Omelette alone was almost $16, it tasted like it should have been $8-$10 and my coffee was almost $6. For the taste of the food it’s definitely over priced. Our server definitely needs some more training. She only came by the table once and thought it would be smart to sit a pitcher of hot coffee right in front of our toddler. If we decide to return, it will be a long time before we do.
If you want a very good breakfast place with great service and atmosphere and you don’t mind the drive, I recommend Berry Fresh Cafe in Palm...
Read moreI work around town and go out to eat by myself very often and NEVER have I been made to feel bad about it. Until I came to Skillets.
I live local so I've been waiting for the restaurant to open since there aren't many breakfast places near here. I was devastated when the Ihop in that location closed years ago so I was excited to try Skillets!
I walk in, was greeted by a manager (a man, maybe around late 20s, early 30s) and two girls. They were all decently nice, sat me somewhere by myself (which was fine), took my order, and I ate. The food was good and I paid the bill.
I wanted to take a menu home for my family to look out, so I asked the same manager and two girls from before. The manager was all "yeah sure here it is" and gave it to me, but he followed up with this:
"Make sure you tell your friends about us, unless you don't have any."
He chuckled and least to say I was appalled. The two girl waitresses gasped so I believe they knew what he said was out of line.
Even then, I will not be returning. The MANAGERS comment made me very upset. Again, I work around town so I go out to eat all the time alone, but they're the first place to make me feel bad about it.
Very...
