Dos Coyotes: where the customer is always wrong and the guac is apparently guarded like it’s made of gold. Came in for a simple meal and left with a masterclass in attitude. My sister asked no chicken for her meal, not a crime, right? Apparently, this triggered some sort of internal chaos, because she was still charged extra for chicken. The cashier, trying to be helpful, said she could get an extra side of guac instead. Cool solution. Or so we thought.
Plot twist: no guac arrived. When my sister asked our server Camille, our delightful (not) server, about it, Camille decided to showcase her Olympic-level eye roll and walked away mid-sentence with a dismissive, “my manager said absolutely not.”
Enter Sam, the manager, or, as I like to call her, the CEO of CCS (Crappy Customer Service) Worldwide. When asked politely about the charge, she snapped, “Like you were told, you can get a refund if you bring your card up.” (So sorry for the inconvenience of trying to correct YOUR mistake?) Moments later, Sam returns, tosses the receipt down on our table, spits out “Here’s your refund,” and walks away like she just dropped the mic.
But the fun wasn’t over! Throughout our meal, Sam and Camille were clearly pointing at our table, whispering, eye rolling, head shaking…. very professional stuff. On our way out, Sam actually continued jeering and pointing while chatting with another employee.
So if you enjoy being treated like an inconvenience, being gossiped about in plain view, and having your basic requests met with theatrical levels of disrespect, CONGRATS, this is your spot.
It was apparent the guacamole wasn’t the only thing that was extra. So was the attitude.
The food was fine. The service? Pure reality TV. One star for the free drama. 👏
Ready for Episode 2 of “High School Behavior: Restaurant Edition” ? Turns out our new BFF Sam never refunded the item! All those theatrics and you never refunded…tsk tsk Sam. Bad...
Read moreDos Coyotes Border Cafe serves up fresh southwestern, TexMex cuisine in a casual, family friendly atmosphere. The Dos in Folsom has a relatively large dining room. Additionally they have a patio dining area. It’s shaded by the trees along the Willow Creek walking trail. Dos is great for large groups not only because of the seating but also of its menu options and counter service. They even have a kid’s menu.
The food is delicious. It has a fresh look and taste, lots of flavor. The seasonal menu items are innovative with a farm to fork focus. My favorites in the regular menu are the Crispy Bobby Tacos and the Potato Tacos.
The shredded beef, in the Bobby Tacos, is delicious and fork shreddable tender. Yum. The potato in the potato tacos are griddled and served open face topped with a cilantro ranch cabbage slaw. The slaw had a drizzle of the dressing so it wasn’t drenched in it. But darn, the combo was tasty. I opted to have the sour cream and gauc served on the side so my taco didn’t get mushy. You can add pulled pork to the potato tacos for an added charge of 85 cents each.
The salsa bar is quite impressive. Lots of choices in mild, medium, and hot spice levels. All the salsas are fresh made. But they don’t give out complimentary chips besides the handful given with each entree plate. However a basket of chips is $1.50.
If you are sensitive to noise level, the dining room acoustics amplify noise. Oddly, it can get loud in there even when everyone is speaking at a normal volume.
Another cool tidbit is that the Red Bull statue in front of Dos is kinetic. The head moves. If you can reach,...
Read moreLong been a fan of Dos. Used to be here very regularly.
Order accuracy has steadily declined over the years, and had some mixed experiences which had slowed frequency of wanting to visit dramatically. They also have taken off many of my favorites off the menu (simple things that I didn’t have to ask for no cilantro, lettuce or onions on).
Tonight was an example of badness. My chipotle bbq sauce wasn’t chipotle bbq sauce at all due to “a mix up this morning”. My plain avocado side (specifically asked for it plain and all by itself) was brown to the point of being inedible, but also had bits of onion and cilantro on it - exactly what I very explicitly asked to not be. Is if that hard to keep things plain and separated?
The bean and cheese burrito was decent and sizable. When they sorted out the right sauce, it was good.
Was very disappointed that someone thought it was ok to plate and serve me brown avocado, but after the sauce challenges didn’t want to expend more effort and wait even longer to resolve something that I shouldn’t have to.
Tonight would have been a 1.5 - 2 star experience. Normally they are slightly above a 3 and my wife didn’t have any issues with her order so being generous with 3 stars. It will be much harder for her to convince me to roll the dice again. If they bring back some of their old specials (which haven’t rotated for a very, very long time like they once did) I may be swayed. Their Chili Colorado was really good when they had it (and it was even a regular item...
