Sundowner's Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Fontana

Update 5/23/25: Went to sundowners for dinner after a long work week. I ordered a super burger without cheese, plain and dry with bacon. When the burger came out, it had cheese and I mentioned it to the kitchen. The gentleman at the counter took the food back and as I peered around the corner and watched the cook, bare handedly, remove the bacon from the patty, flip the burger over and peeled the cheese off, gave the patty a shake, and then threw it right back on the grill. All of this, again, bare handed. Accidents happen, and we all don't like to see how the sausage is made, but in this case, it was blatantly in the open this violation of food safety. After witnessing all of this, I asked to speak to the manager and asked him to the side rather than bring it up on the floor in front of other patrons. But in all honesty, I do not believe he comprehended what my complaint was. While Sundowner's is not an "upscale" restaurant, I would hope that they would at least follow common sense when preparing our food. After this experience, I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon.

Original review: Sundowner's is a good meal at a reasonable price. There are folks who would expect $80 steakhouse quality while spending pennies on the dollar, and those folks are silly. The quality of the food can definitely teeter from one end of the spectrum from time to time, but if you come with the expectation that the food is good and reasonably priced, you will not be...

Under staffed,, restaurant operation needs to be efficient enough to handle call in orders as well as outside dining.

Sadly,,, The owner of this Fontana landmark eatery doesn't get it.... Hire more people , Adjust and increase your outside diner capacity, clean your tables and chairs so your customer don't have to and Lastly ,,, Fire every last one of your cooks the ones you have are either new or too old and don't get it...... This place is infamous for poor customer service. For the record,, Sizzler has folded up their business. Which means these guys need to up their game . Want a Steak Dinner ?.... caveat emptor,, Buyer beware. Jumbo Shrimp and Steak dinner Really,,? . There's a distinct difference between Jumbo Shrimp and Butterflied Shrimp made to look like a large Jumbo shrimp... Sorry folks this menu isn't worth the 17.00 usd The Steak was atrocious. I was served a 6 ounce steak , The potato was the size of my grandsons fist and the toast was toasted on one side as if the cooks had no time..... I will remember my experience this time as to be one to avoid Consider staying at home if you are expecting a quality meal that's worth 60.00 for two adults and child. My apologies for not mentioning we all had a salad ,two soups and beverages.

Well My friend has been coming to this Diner for years so she was very excited about taking me. The lady who took our order was very nice, However as soon as we met up with our server he was uncooperative. We specifically told him 2 SEPARTE CHECKS and he pretended to be funny and just stood there acting dumb. He went on to explain that he wasn't from the USA and didn't understand. Mind you we explained in plain English and in Spanish which he told us he didn't speak Spanish. Anyway I ended up paying with my Debit Card in order to speed things up. Which by the way this place charges you an EXTRA PERCENTAGE for using a Debit or Credit Card. Which I thought was ridiculous. Anyway, my friend had ordered some Jalapeños and he agreed not to charge her for them, at the time of pickup up our food he told her she had to pay for them. She argued that she was not. The owner of this place came out and ordered him to give them to her. Geeezezzz this entire ordeal was so frustrating. We got our food, my friends plate was ok but my friend chicken was tosted to where the skin was hard. I didn't like the food or the service. Only thing pleasant was the Owner and the man who picks up our plates after we're done eating. He was extremely nice...
