Truly exceptional food. Unique, interesting, flavorful. It’s the place we take visitors when they come to town, and it’s dangerous having it 2 min from our house. My wife and I have been 3 times now and each time was amazing.
The hen, hugs you like an old Italian grandma, makes you feel warm and comforted, with deep rustic comforting flavors. The lasagna is magical, light and authentic Italian, literally dissolves in your mouth and left me at a loss for words for at least 2 full minutes, it’s so good it should probably be illegal. The pasta trio is exceptional, and a fantastic way to taste a bit of everything. The Pinot Noir soaked pear, is amazing and unique, I’ve ordered it the last two times I’ve been, and it’s always gone too soon. The NY strip is also amazing, I had that my first trip in, and while it is very good, there are so many other interesting options that I likely won’t order it again until I’ve been through everything else! My wife had the trout, and it to was earthy and divine.
The staff has been very good the last few times we have gone, and the chef is a delight to speak to. The vibe inside is comfortable and feels warm and inviting
This most recent trip we took my best friend who is 70 and from NYC and full blooded Italian, we have had a lot of excellent food in some extremely nice and reputable places together in the last 20 years and he put it in his top 5 dining experiences ever.
In short, if you are looking for some Italian American style Italian food you’ll be disappointed, but if you want authentic cuisine, and a culinary adventure, something that will leave you wanting to start the whole night over after you are finished and something truly unforgettable then make this a must stop. Is it a touch expensive? Of course, as it should be….and you can tell in the quality of ingredients and the presentation. Worth. Every. Penny. Every time we have been. Can’t...
Read moreWe came from SF to entertain my MIL. We called to cancel our reservation 3 hours ahead because she wanted a change of plans - no answer, so we stop in to cancel in person. Walk into the restaurant (door wide open) and the insufferable chef is briefing the team for the shift - talks about dates they can’t take off. One of his team members starts to walk over to help me and he says “wait” to them and they come back - so I’m the customer waiting at the door like an idiot while he briefs the employees - maybe close the door if you’re not ready? I ask about cancelling - the server goes to the chef and he loudly says it’s a $35 fee per person for less than 24 hours notice - the server comes back and goes “well, you heard him”. So we stretch ourselves to make the reservation - have some okay food, and his whole team is very clearly traumatized by him. Everytime he shouted at them, or rang his bell, they would flinch! One of the servers even hit my partners shoulders with her body while rushing to the kitchen to grab food in a panic - no apology. There is very clearly a toxic work environment going on at this establishment, and needless to say we will never be back.
UPDATE: The owners response is not true - there was no closed sign and the door was wide open for anybody to come in. Customers: think about it - do you want dine at a restaurant where it’s owner and chef refers to his customers as “small minded”?? The “eagerness” he cited of his staff was not true - he does not address the server that hit my partners shoulder with her body because of her panic to grab plates from the kitchen. Another ego-maniac chef with mediocre food and even more...
Read moreService was great, we were taken care of the whole time by an attentive but not obtrusive server. However, this restaurant does not pay attention to detail. I was given a plate that was chipped in two places, one of which was large enough to cut me, so I turned the plate away from me. The asparagus/prosciutto dish had the merest suggestion of prosciutto wrapped around the asparagus. The celery marmalade on this dish was so cool and tasty (I truly liked this) but I wasn't entirely sure what to do with it on this so we put it on the mozzarella. I think that's right. I don't know, I'm a peasant. Pasta for one dish was underdone and there were pieces of pasta rather than whole pasta. The pasta congealed at the bottom of the bowl (this was the meat/pasta dish), which seems hard to do since it was undercooked, but it happened! The meat in this dish was very tasty. My seafood spaghetti came wrapped in paper, which I thought was odd but I rolled with it. However, no bowl for shells was provided for muscles and clams and it was rather tasteless, given that all components, shellfish, tomatoes, garlic, green onions were steamed and not seasoned well. Spaghetti was cooked well in this dish but I stopped eating it because it just had no flavor. I decided to go get an ice cream sundae instead to fill all the calories I missed and to make me feel better. Disappointing dinner, I feel like I just threw money away, but all of these things could be easily adjusted for great dishes. There was also a random butternut squash nearca coat hanger at the...
