I wanted to like this place, I really did. I would have given it a 1 star if it weren't for the two really nice people running this place. We went solely for the Tonkatsu Ramen. Unfortunately, we were having withdrawals from the best ramen place we've ever eaten, Ramen Tatsuya in Austin, so we decided to try this place in FOCO. I also tried a Shrimp Spring Roll out of the cooler case, in what appeared to be King Soopers packaging. It was too cold and had lost some of it's flavor sitting. The peanut sauce was also kind of flavorless.
We ordered the Pork Ramen and it was delivered to the table. The pork appeared to be pulled pork, not the rolled pork belly that should be served. It was decorated by two hard boiled egg halves and some green onion, and the noodles. The broth was definitely not authentic Tonkatsu broth, which if you've ever tasted it, can only sigh with the rich creamy broth, full of pork collagen that sticks to your tongue as you let it roll around your mouth. I'm not sure what the broth was made of, but it had no special taste other than maybe chicken or pork with a little something thrown in. The noodles were anything special and I wondered if they were even fresh and not dried.
I kept thinking that this was basically Top Ramen with a pile of meat on top and a few adornments.
We both commented to each other on the way out, "This place will...
Read moreDespite what the logo and name would lead you to believe, this is a restaurant, not a grocery store. The food, much like the logo, has clearly had a lot of thought, effort, and intentional work put into it. The food, like the logo, both fall short. As they attempt to encompass far too much, they fail to do any one thing well. There's a reason the best ramen restaurant in the world only sells ramen. There's a reason the best pho in the world only serves pho.
Eat here if you want to pay slightly higher prices for slightly better than mediocre Asian food. It attempts to be a higher quality Panda Express. I'd take Panda over here any day, but also enjoy buying local over national chains.
I really wanted to fall in love with this place. I live close, and enjoyed predecessor Saigon Grill (which is now overpriced since moving to College).
Read this review keeping in mind: I've had good Asian food. Some of these other reviews absolutely astound me into the deepest oblivion: "best ramen I've ever had" = probably has never had actually good ramen.
Ultimately, it's worth a try. Apparently some of these other people (who have probably never eaten outside of Fort Collins) really like it. Just don't go in with hopes that should match a 4.6 star...
Read moreI wanted to try a new Thai place, especially since I liked the old Asiana foods ramen and wanted to give the new restaurant a try. I got yellow curry, Thai tea, and spring rolls. The Thai tea and spring rolls were good but the yellow curry was really spicy even tho I said mild. It had lots of oil and wasn’t that creamy (I usually go to simply Thai, so I was expecting that same spice). The chicken also was in very thick, little pieces which threw me off. They also don’t offer coconut rice as a rice option and make it a “dessert”. I asked for coconut rice instead of jasmine on my online order and they asked me when I came in if I wanted dessert rice or sticky rice, and I assumed they were still talking about coconut so I said I don’t want your dessert (since coconut rice is a standalone dessert on their website).I want just the sticky coconut. They probably would’ve charged me the 5 dollars or so for a “dessert”. Then I got this weird sticky rice that was not sweet and really really hard. Basically just jasmine rice but hard. It’s pretty odd to not have an option to get coconut rice...
