I first went to Metro Diner about 2 weeks ago for breakfast. I had the biscuits and gravy, and my other son had scrambled eggs. The biscuits and gravy were a solid 8 out of 10 - large portions and the biscuits were good. The gravy lacked some flavor and pepper, but overall solid and would order again. My son's scrambled eggs were average, nothing bad - just average.
However, I went there this past Monday night (8.11.25) for dinner. I had the fried chicken and my son had the steak rice bowl. With my fried chicken came mashed potatoes w/brown gravy, green beans and a biscuit. Again, large portions, but the fried chicken looked liked it was fried in old grease and had very little flavor. The green beans had 0.00% flavor, and for the first time ever at a restaurant, I reached for the salt. They were cooked a tad too al dente as well. The biscuit was hard and looked old, very disappointed. The only thing that was half-way decent were the mashed potatoes. My son's streak rice bowl had little flavor as well, he didn't even finish despite being very hungry. The sauce that it came with tasted like rancid soy sauce. We walked away angry because we had a bad meal - nothing worse than paying good money for a bad meal.
I am willing to give it another shot because the breakfast was good, but if my 3rd trip isn't good - they lost me permanently. Eating out is too expensive to not get great...
Read moreFirst visit to Metro Diner in Indian Land after hearing great things about it. Overall not a bad experience. Nice clean location with plenty of friendly wait staff. However, totally unsatisfied with the bill: Waitress told us that a side was included with the Croissant sandwich. They charged us $1.00 for a side of onion rings. No big deal but don't say all sides are included. My biggest gripe: I do not like creamer with my coffee and asked for a little cold milk. Was charged $3.49 for about 5 tbsps of cold milk. Questioned the charge and was told it was restaurant policy to charge for the milk. Do they charge for coffee creamer, sugar, sweetner??? Heck , I can buy a gallon of milk for that. Did not want to argue or make a scene but the owner/management need to do a better job training their help.
I’m happy to update my previous review — the owner/manager took my feedback very positively and handled the situation with true professionalism. Not only was I credited for the milk charge, but they also took real steps to improve: the servers have been trained accordingly, and they’ve even ordered small steel jugs/pitchers to serve milk, which is a thoughtful and practical touch. It’s clear they genuinely care about customer experience. I’ll definitely be coming back soon. Great food, great service, and great response...
Read moreThe experience at this location was great! We got there around 11am on a Saturday, it was packed, & we were put on a waiting list for about 10 minutes. We were able to wait outside in the shade in their outdoor seating area. The staff was very friendly, from the host to the servers. Our server was very friendly, kind, attentive, & she would swing by every couple of minutes to check up on us, always with a smile. The food was great & the amount would definitely stuff you if you finish your entire order. We ordered silver dollar pancakes for our toddler, and half way through his plate the cook came to our table with another plate of small pancakes on the house because he felt that the pancakes initially given to us looked too small. That was a very kind & considerate gesture that makes all the difference. We had a Belgium waffle, croissant french toasts, eggs, fries, & bacan, and all tastes good. Its a family oriented atmosphere, so its great for the family! The prices were fair, all 3 meals amounted to $44, which included a couple of extra sides. I would definitely visit again & recommend this place...
