My wife and I had our first visit to Greyhound Tavern on Thursday, December 28th. I decided that this would be a nice place for my wife's birthday. So we made a reservation for 6:15pm. If you decide to eat here I highly recommend making a reservation as this place was packed around dinner time and the parking lot was full. We were seated at our table within 10 minutes of our arrival, which I personally didn't think was too bad. The atmosphere is nice and the restaurant has been around since the early 1900's. Unfortunately that is all the nice things I have to say about our experience. It took our waiter 20 minutes to get our drink order and then an additional 45 minutes to take our food order. Yes, you heard me right, 45 minutes. During that time, we overheard our waiter tell other patrons that three of their cooks had called in and that they were short staffed. Being that we are in today's world, I empathize with the restaurant industry as it's hard work. However, we sat there for another hour and still our food had not arrived. My wife and I had enough and decided to leave after being there for now two hours. As we were walking out, our waiter came out of the kitchen with our food and asked if we still wanted it. Again, trying to empathize, we decided to stay. The food itself was good but the whole experience was overshadowed by horrible service and the establishment being short staffed. My wife and I also witnessed another couple leave due to this place running out of risotto and the waiter telling another table that they had run out of baked potatoes. Our bill alone was over $100, with tip as I was still generous to our waiter who was literally running around tables and sweating just to keep up. I can't recommend this place as the service was unacceptably slow and Greyhound just seems that they are unable to keep up with large crowds and apparently can run out of food items depending on how busy they get. There is definitely some work that...
Read moreThe pros: The food was reasonable. The fried chicken was an A- it was good but not great. They had lots of fresh fruit and veggies, a good salad and nice southern style biscuits. The fruit was very fresh and crisp. The wait staff was excellent, drinks were always topped off and the restaurant itself had a great local southern feel.
The cons: The food and worse the price. While there were highlights in general it was just okay and when you get the bill: three people and a child it was awful. Over $60 not including tip for Sunday Brunch. First the bacon was soggy, the eggs were dry, the desserts appeared to be semi-homemade and the chocolate chip cookies appeared to be soft batch from Walmart. My four year old didn't even finish the store bought brownie.
The biscuits were okay, they appeared to be homemade but they weren't to fresh. The rolls were okay, the Mac and cheese was homemade but the sauce was broken, they shouldn't have served it (for those that aren't cooks, a broken sauce is a sauce that rue that gets to hot and separates). The eggs to be specific were dry, I was unhappy with them and while they weren't terrible they didn't justify the price nor quality.
In short the place was full, (mostly with older folks) so maybe my experience was isolated, but I was not impressed upon getting the bill regretted the...
Read moreWe are new to the area and we're driving around looking for a place for lunch and found this cool looking place with character and charm.... The property seems nice but we were some what confused when we walked in. There is a front area that seems more tavern-like with lots of character but we were seated in the more formal dining room area. We were never given an option as we walked in with our very casual shorts and t-shirt and tank top. Service was super slow. Took 20 minutes to get our "world famous onion rings" that ultimately tasted bland. Took another 30-40 minutes to get our lunch. The barbecue pork sandwich was bad, unfavorful pork, soaked in BBQ sause, on a soggy bun with what I assume we're Lay's wavy chips and some sweet coleslaw. The slaw was the best part and it was just okay. We also had the grilled chicken sandwich. It was better than the BBQ pork, but marginal at best. The chicken was super dry. 90 minutes for lunch, $40 with tip, and marginal food and service.... We were very disappointed. Now in their defense, they seemed short staffed, and busy with some type reception in a private room. So maybe it was just a bad day. Not sure we will go back, but after reading all the 5 star reviews, it feels like something just doesn't add up. So a second chance? I'm not sure. There seem to be a lot of other...
