TLDR: If you're looking for friendly service and great pizza, Camporosso will not disappoint, just make sure you skip the Mojitos. With pizzas, cocktails and couple deserts to go, it was $75 for the two of us.
(...for the sake of context, this was our first visit, it was a Saturday around 3:15 PM...)
Upon entering we were greeted warmly by the hostess. We threw her a curve ball immediately when we requested a booth. She didn't miss a beat telling us that there were none available, but she'd be happy to clean one off for us and then off she went. She returned with a smile and showed us to our booth.
The restaurant was very clean all around, even under the tables.
Like many places these days they presented us with photocopied single-use menus, that were a bit crumpled. The single-use menus are a great idea, unless you're reusing them, which they seem to be.
After getting us a round of waters, our waitress gave us about 8 minutes to talk and look over the menu before coming back to take as if we had any questions and to take our order. Pretty much perfect. Our waitress was incredibly nice.
Cocktails are $10 each. I only make a point to mention the price because that was the single worst amateur-hour attempt at a Mojito either of us had ever tried. 3 mint leaves and a small section of lime were dropped into the drink. You have got to muddle the mint, lime and the sugar/simple syrup together for a bit in order to get that flavor for a proper Mojito. It takes a little extra time, but otherwise you wind up with citrus flavored soda water, and that's pretty much what they served us. I could, of course, have gone up to the bar and stood there during a remake to ensure it was done right, but knowing I'd be doing a review I wanted to have the "real" first time experience that any other customer would have.
Food arrived at the table about 10-12 minutes after ordering. It was surprisingly fast. We got the deluxe and meats pizzas to try. They were both excellent. The wood fired pizza's had great flavor and a good balance between, crust, sauce and toppings.
Even though they were not busy, at no point did anyone come to the table and ask us how our meal was or check to make sure if everything was OK. With this being our first time there and having an issue with the cocktail, it was a little disappointing.
We'll definitely be back for the pizza, but we'll be skipping the cocktails. It was definitely an odd combination to find food that good and drinks that bad. Would have been five stars, but the Mojito blunder and letting us walk out the door without ever asking about our experience was a big miss. You only get one chance to make that first impression on a new customer.
UPDATE: 3 months later we returned with guests for round two with Camporosso. Still random and confusing issues from the bar. However, the service, this time, was impeccable. We tried 5 pizza's between the four of us and they were every bit as good as they were the first time we visited. Consistency of the food across visits is a big win in my book. Can't wait to go back and introduce more people to the best...
Read moreAmazing dining experience. I wanted to have pizza but pizza the way I would imagine it would be in Italy. A quick Google search and I found Camporosso's website which displayed a picture of a Margherita pizza and I knew I had to visit. The description of how they made the pizza was everything I was looking for in my vision of a pizza as I imagine it from Italy.
I was not disappointed. The restaurant itself it very intimate. There behind the L Shaped bar is a beautiful wood fire oven that in a few minutes would be making my beautiful Margherita pizza. I selected a seat at the bar where you can watch the pizza come to creation. They push the dough and then scoop it up and begin flipping it to stretch it and place it gently on a wooden paddle. Then down the line it goes where fresh toppings are selected and then the pizza is slid into the wood fire oven. As I waited for my pizza I had a nice glass of wine.
Then my pizza arrived. The smells were amazing. So much flavor in my first bite. From the sauce to the fresh basil, the perfect crust and the mozzarella. The mozzarella was perfection. I enjoyed every piece... But had to stop myself because I saw the dessert list and two items captured my attention, Woodford Reserve Bourbon Gelato and Chocolate Chip Cannolis. Both desserts were absolutely wonderful. I couldn't have been more content with my visit.
Not only was the food amazing but the people who work there pulled this whole experience together. There was a young lady who was in charge of sliding the pizza creations into the wood fire oven. She was so great to talk with. Then the two young men who were taking dough balls and making it into pies. They both were very detailed in what they were doing. When they weren't making pizzas they worked to clean things up like flour that had gotten on surfaces or filling empty containers. I noticed two people in the kitchen, dressed very nicely and can only believe they were the owners. They were back there helping in any way they could. It's nice to see everyone pitching in to help out.
When I was leaving the employees thanked me for coming and said they hoped I would be back. I can say for certain I will be back. Thank you for a wonderful...
Read moreI was really hoping that the wait and anticipation of eating here didn't cloud my experience here. I'll admit, due to health concerns of family, I decided to get carry-out and didn't get to experience the full Comporosso. I arrived a bit late and an hour within closing on a Sunday to pick up our order. It was packed!! However, the most inviting places in the restaurant were the bar area and the patio, outside. There was a bit of confusion with our order and which pizza, pasta, salad or antipasto was who's, with all of the carry out in the cue. Our order was collected and was accurate to the letter, we later found out when we got home. The Italian inspired chili was a hit for everyone at home, the Ceasar salad with white anchovies was very good as well. We also ordered pizzas; the Quattro Formaggi(four cheese), Comporosso Classic, Chicken Pesto / without the bacon (it came with bacon anyway) not a problem, really. We ordered two pastas as well; the Pasta Primavera and a spaghetti and meatballs(children's size) The Quattro Formaggi and the Comporosso Classic were the finalists as far as taste and overall yummiest the Quattro winning the final taste test of all of the family. The Italian inspired chili was the third place vote winner. I'd love to go back and try more of the menu and the atmosphere of Comporosso, just to get the full experience. All together, I feel that it will be a hard sell for the rest of the family as Comporosso fell short of most of our expectations for the carry-out experience. I want to think that it was the end of the work week, the end of a busy day/weekend for the people working at Comporosso. I will definitely try to sell my family on one more visit but my outlook isn't so rosey. I will pass Comporosso many more times and think about when I will get back there. Vivé la Comporosso....you look great on Dixie Highway in Ft. Mitchell. You class up the place! From the curb, you look so inviting and ALWAYS busy(not on Monday, they closed) and make me want to be there every time I pass, and I pass this place a lot! Like, every prescription retrieval or trips to grocery or over the river to Ohio. Until...
