So I just got back from the place called Slim Chickens. I am in Arkansas on business and got in late last night to my hotel room . Looked on the TV and saw a commercial for a place called slim chicken. They stated good chicken using homemade, hand battered tenders. When I asked at the front what was close they happened to say Slim Chickens was right across the street. I walked down the drive and across the street to the restaurant which is located right outside of the airport entrance. I arrived at noon or shortly after and the place was quite busy. When I got up for the front door there were probably five parties ahead of me. One gentleman said " hope you plan to wait " . I had nothing else to do so I stood in line and chatted with another customer about what was good at this place. She rattled off a couple different menu items that her and her husband enjoyed at various times on their visits. When I got up to the counter I ordered the slim chick which was five chicken tenders, a side of your choice (usually fries unless specified), two pieces of Texas toast, 2 sauces and a drink for $8.69. I was delighted to hear that I could choose from either deep fried or grilled as I am a grilled chicken kind of girl.
There is a whole list of sides to choose from, some of which are an upcharge like the fried okra, side salad, fried pickles, Etc. They also have quite a few choices of sauces. I grabbed my number, paid the lady whose name was Kat by the way, she mentioned that she was a new employee and I will say she did quite well. Hint, hint to her manager. They have a full fountain bar with four different choices of tea, including sweet, unsweet, Peach and I believe raspberry although I'm not positive. I did also upgrade to the large drink so that I could take it back to my hotel room. Obviously with a fountain bar off to the side there are free refills. I found a table although it was slightly dirty. I did grab a napkin and wiped it off. I just figured with them being so busy no one had a chance to clean the tables although I will say that I never saw anyone come out and clean off any of the tables while I was there. This may be a suggestion to watch for in the future. My food arrived in about 9 or 10 minutes later which I thought was very good considering all of the people in line.
The grilled chicken tenders are just that, no seasoning or anything which is fine with me as I don't enjoy the extra seasoned salt or other spices that may contain salt. There were a fair amount of french fries, plenty for one meal and probably to share as I did not eat them all. Their Texas toast is a little different than what we have in the Midwest. Their toast is a thinner type of bread that has been grilled unlike the thick bread slices I am used to.
I chose the ranch and habanero mango sauces. The ranch was quite thick and not watered down like some places. The habanero had some heat and good flavor. I would get both of them again.
Slim Chickens is what I would consider a fast food place where you clean up your own trash. On the way out I did refill my drink. I was probably there for about 40 minutes and by the time I left there were plenty of open tables. Again I'm just assuming it was the lunchtime crowd.
Overall it was a good experience. A few steps up than a Popeye's or KFC. Plus it's local and I always try to stop by the local places rather than the chains. All together my bill was $10.69.
One last thing to mention, if you no you are going there check online for their app. If you download it you will get a coupon for a free chicken sandwich however it seems to take a little while to process as I tried to get one on the way out but the code...
Read moreMyself and my roommate staying at a near by hotel tried this place out. Smelled good during the day and busy. One late night, we go to through drive thru and order crispy chicken sandwich meals. First when we pulled in I saw a bunch of teenagers that looked like they work there having a tiny party in the parking lot with friends smoking blunts. I know cause my window was down. The speaker on the menu board either needs to be replaced or the person needs to speak up. I was told that they are out of chicken patties and asked us if it was ok to use chicken tenders. I agreed. Pulled up to the window and waited for 20-25 mins before the guy came up with our bag and took our payment. The entire time while waiting, I saw other employees just horsing around, laughing, just cruising the kitchen like their own. Btw no hair nets...hats or type of uniform. You know when you were younger and had a job with customer exposure; the boss said "always look busy, don't stand around". Well I know now why we were told that. People like us. It does matter; interaction face value, confidence with the company and the people in charge of cooking your food, and customer service. We paid, got our order and left back to the hotel. We notice the tenders used were small and slapped on the buns that were small, barely any sauce mayo or Chayanne sauce on the other, the fries were cold. I tried some before we drove off. The burgers were small compared to what was illustrated on the menu. They broke apart easily and the tenders did not work. I did agree them to use the tenders however we still paid full price for the meals. Wasn't offered a discount or a gift card with credit on the next meal, nothing. And I hate styrofoam cups or styrofoam anything. The potato salad was the best I have ever had at a restaurant. It was so good, the bacon and the texture with that unique taste was amazing. Cookout winner there. This is the first time I have been to the restaurant and I don't see myself coming back. It may be just a job but it really does matter for the business. Slim Chickens was...
Read moreThis isn't our typical slim chickens as we were in the area on business today. But because we usually have good experience we figured this would be a good place to drive-thru and grab lunch on our way back home. WE WERE WRONG. We went through the drive-thru and we asked for 2 mac and cheese kids meals, 8 piece garlic parm wings, and buffalo sandwich. We had to repeat multiple times and when we got to the window they had completely missed that kids meals. No big deal since we were still able to add them on. I reiterated that we needed mac and cheese kids meals. We paid , got our food, and I told my husband to park so we could check to make sure everything was correct. It wasn't. The kids meals were the chicken tender meals when we requested mac and cheese twice. I took the receipt and meals inside and let the person at the front know what happened and proceeded to watch the person in the drive-thru run around liike a chicken with her head cut off and speaking like an auctioneer to customers in the drive-thru. The manager didn't come out, no apology offered. They did offer to let us keep the tender meals but my kids weren't going to eat them and we had a 2 hoir drive home. Then when I got back into our car and started eating my own food i realized that the "garlic parmesan" wings were almost completely dry and had almost no flavor. Almost like they had been tossed with whatever was leftover in the tossing bowl with a small amount of Parmesan tossed on top and the bread that they put with the meal was burnt. Overall, a very dissappointing experience at this location and defiently not worth the money paid. We will not...
