(I'll preface this by saying this particular cox store isn't specifically to blame for my experience but cox doesnt have any kind of public feedback option and they probably wouldnt read it if they did so here i am hoping someone in upper management sees this and feels a modicum of shame.) Cox is the slightly less awful option in a monopolized market. They are the fastest if you don't have a fiber option but Jesus the things you have to put up with almost make it not worth it. Just switched from att which is even worse somehow (slower than 4g lol) and already having issues with wildly changing speeds which in turn is causing issues with my work from home pc. Called for help and was told they can send someone out but it may cost up to an additional $100....to fix their issue, lol (i had fresh coax put in around 5 years ago and do not use a router, only their modem). Apparently you can also give them an extra 10 spot every month for "special" IT help, so maybe ACTUAL IT help?? The IT guy I got was nice but during this conversation I was prompted twice for add on services such as the above mentioned "special IT helpline", which I'm sure he HAS to do or he gets in trouble. So the majority of the time I spent on the phone with an IT guy, not a sales person was going over prices for various things I could pay for. Including the fixing of the internet I got one day before. The only free option I had was to drive to this cox store and exchange my one day old modem to see if that did anything. When you live in an area that only has one or two isp options you are at the whim of extremely greedy executives that will squeeze every penny they can out of you, and that's just the way it is now apparently, although im old enough to remember when cox was an upstanding company that provided what they advertised. TLDR; If you're in the river valley area and live outside of city limits get fiber from any company but cox, if you live in town, god speed friend. Maybe if you give them hundreds every month for their business package you get fast &...
Read moreOur business had Cox telephone and internet service for two 3-year contracts beginning in August 2014. Before our 2nd 3-year contract ended I called Cox Business Telephone service in July of 2020 and told them we wished to cancel our contract with them which was 3 phones lines and internet service. We had to get phone and internet service elsewhere because their phone service was down so much. Cox noted this on our account and we went to another business telephone and internet provider in August 2020. Last month, September 2022, I discovered the Cox Business had been charging us over $150.00 every month for internet service even though I told them to cancel our contract with them in July 2020. My wife who does secretarial duties at our office had been accustomed to paying bills from Cox for the previous 6 years and she didn't see anything unusual about the Cox bills we were getting. I had told her we were quitting Cox, but she had forgotten the conversation or didn't understand. This went on for 2 years with Cox charging us an average of $150.00 a month, totaling about $3800.00 for internet service we never used because we had internet with our new phone service provider I called Cox Customer service and they said they could see my phone request for the contract termination, but thought I was only cancelling our phone service. I TOLD THEM TO CANCEL OUR CONTRACT WHICH HAD INTERNET SERVICE BUNDLED IN IT!!!. How sloppy can a business get?? I turned in our Cox Business Internet modem after we got our new internet provider and you would think some one at Cox would connect the dots and see a problem!! I talked to 4 people in Customer Service before being handed to a supervisor named Mr. Brian. Mr. Brian said there was nothing Cox would do because we had kept paying the monthly bill. Mr. Brian, it's too bad your company won't take responsibility for one of your employees errors which cost us several...
Read moreOne of the worst ISPs available, I've even had comcast in Washington and California. First off they offered this gigabit plan last year when I moved in because every other plan has horrendous upload speeds. So I was going to get it but they made you get a DOCSIS 3.1 modem which weren't manufactured yet outside of the equipment from Cox. Well when you get their equipment they lock in your DNS server and they're using the data they collect and direct you to for marketing purposes. Your search results are controlled by Cox and they only show you data they want you to see based on who had paid them the most money for your searching history and internet useage.
Speed: Horrible. Even with their "fastest" plan things routinely time out or get stuck loading. I'm paying $110 a month for internet which is highway robbery for the slow speeds I get. They just tell me "network congestion" when I only have two devices on the network.
I'm sincerely looking forward to Google and AT&T and other internet providers to have fiber in the area to drive down the prices and offer better services.
I sincerely hope you consider other options if you have them but they're essentially a monopoly here and control it all. If you're stuck with this company just know they send you junk mail at least 2 times a week in the mail box and countless spam emails to your email they make you register with to pay bills.
I've ordered a new DOCSIS 3.1 modem and have a nighthawk router so I'll be changing my DNS server
Customer service is essentially non existent. They just run you through the typical reset your modem/router and it will get better (fun fact it doesn't and anyone who's used internet in the last decade knows to power cycle their equipment)
They also open multiple accounts or services on your account without your consent which could impact your credit score.
Be weary of this giant monopoly and avoid...
