Mixed feelings on this visit. I left a great review last year. This time, some things were off.
The whole restaurant smells bad, vaguely like a sewer.
Tortilla chips were nice and crunchy (probably the crunchiest I have ever had), but unsalted. The salsa is horrible. Tastes like tomato paste from a can.
The taco shell was very, very stale.
The potato soup, which was at least half the reason I came (OMG I adore potato soup) didn't taste as good as it did last year, but this could all be in my head. I can't say for sure they changed anything.
The waitress was very friendly but she seemed in a rush to leave my table. She asked me if I needed more time to look at the menu (nothing wrong with that), but you could tell she really wanted to walk away. This was NOT a busy time that I could tell (unless the back room was really full. Couldn't tell).
I really, really, really wanted to try the Cheesecake Chimis, but you know how it goes: I came in hungry and filled up on chips first. I had zero room for dessert. That was no one's fault but my own. Perhaps I will return just for dessert sometime.
Update: I went back for the exact same meal ("Pick Two--Taco and Enchilada"), but I did order the Cheesecake Chimis for dessert this time. The Chimis were super delicious. There is a little bit of raspberry (I think it's raspberry) glaze on them. Unexpected taste combo, but it works. You get three of them with vanilla ice cream. It's really a meal onto itself. I will be back for the Chimis again,...
Read moreWent in and the atmosphere was very nice, nice lil bar/restaurant. Sat down in soft booths, and got served rather promptly. The server was extremely nice and quick with the orders. That's about the only good that came from my experience.
The "salsa" looked and tasted like bland tomato soup, no salsa chunks or anything, just tomato soup. The chips were pretty stale, more chewy than crunchy. With the orders we got a "soup" with it, it was a watery bowl of about 4-5 very small potato cubes, and it tasted like boiled onion water. I ordered the Big Al? It looked good, but had absolutely zero seasoning in it, the beans were not very warm either and the veggies looked like they were a cpl days old. My gf got the 3 tacos and could only finish 1 because they had 2 shells? And greasy as can be. The rice she had looked very good, but was under cooked and bland as well.
I'd like to try the bar, as they had a very nice top shelf selection of tequila, and are supposed to be known for their margaritas. But I don't think that alone is enough for...
Read moreWhen we were kids my whole family always chose la margarita for birthdays! It was kind of like tradition. Well, now that we're all older we thought it would be a good throw back.
To start off.. The chips tasted burnt, they weren't but that's how they tasted. The salsa was pure tomato puree. The potato soup... bland. The meal itself was okay, a little salty. Not anything like I had remembered as a kid I will say that much. There was only one server. They weren't horribly busy.. maybe 3 tables including us on the family side and not sure what the bar looked like. It did take quite sometime to get anything, whether it be water, chips, salsa, or even our order. She informed us she was the only one working after apologizing halfway thru the meal.
It was alot more expensive then before. Everything was about 15 bucks. And I'm okay with paying that but I just didn't feel like what I got was worth it.
I don't know if they switched owners or cooks or what but definitely not the same quality they used to have and it's a heck of a lot...
