We had 7:45 reservations. Arrived at 7:15 They found our reservation and checked us in. We went to the bar to wait for our table. Shortly after sitting at the bar, another couple sat next to us mentioning that they didn’t have a reservation, but the hostess was going to try to find them a table. About 10 minutes later the hostess walked up to them and showed them to a table. We figured our reservation was for a specific 2 top and were willing to enjoy our wine while we waited on our table. When 8:00 passed, my husband went to the hostess to inquire about our table. She said the tables weren’t turning over and they would try to get us seated as soon as possible. My husband asked why the other couple was seated without a reservation if the reservations weren’t being honored. She looked surprised and said please tell me that didn’t happen. About 5 min later they showed us to a table for 4 in the middle of the room between a party of 10 and a party of 12 who had been there for over 2 hours. The manager came over and apologized saying he never checked us in therefore didn’t know to seat us. He offered a free appetizer. The waitress never asked us if we were celebrating a special occasion. She was more concerned with whether we paid our tab at the bar. To say the table of 12 was loud is an understatement. I think they thought they were at Applebees screaming all the way down to the other end of the table and insisting that someone stole his hat that didn’t exist. Even to the point where 5 of the drunk people swarmed around out table to help search for said hat. We said something to the waitress about the noise level and she just said yeah it can get loud in here. Our meal came and let me just say the mashed potatoes were something you would see in an episode of Mash where the mess tent is slapping a ladle of grey mush into their trays. We both set them aside. The party of 12 left right before our meal was over, but not before their goodbyes surrounding our table. Shortly after they left, the manager came by to see how we were doing. We reiterated our frustration with the loud party and he just shrugged us off and went to the next table. Between the 3 drinks at the bar, 2 dinners, free appetizer and tips our total was a little over $160. The worst $160 ever spent. We will not be back. Paula’s has lost our business. If they want to be a nice restaurant where couples want to go to celebrate a special occasion - they need to stop acting like they are an Applebees. You can do...
Read moreDisappointed is all I can really say. People had told us this is the place to go for great seafood, so we were really excited to spend our Anniversary there. Not a single person of the staff had a friendly face or even asked us "what brought us out this evening". Our waiter was friendly and put on a smile, about the only one who did, but still never asked us what brought us out, like the experiences we have had at other more classy restaurants, ie. Baker street and Cork and Cleaver. Now let's get to the food, which took 45min, the calamari was overcooked, rubbery and had no flavor. The only flavor we got was from the sauces they provided and one tasted out of a can/jar. We didnt even get our bread until after the appetizer and once again, no flavor, not even in the chive butter. My husband ordered the combo so he could try a little of a few things and he could sum up that dinner in one word...BLAND. Even the so called Famous crab cakes were disappointing. I ordered the swordfish because it was the daily fish special and there was nothing special about it. It was supposed to have blackened seasoning on it, but again actually had no flavor. The worst part was that I didn't even want to eat it because it was so dry. I had to ask for more sauce to even get through it. We made our grievances known to the waiter who apologized heavily yet nothing was said from a manager. They were kind enough to not charge us for my meal and offer a free dessert which yet again was subpar. A frozen chocolate peanut butter cake...It wasnt until we were driving home that a manager decided to give us a call and apologize for the bad food and offer us a certificate to come back. We are still undecided if we will use it as our anniversary experience is completely forgettable. The only reason for 2 stars and not 1 was because of the offering of a certificate. I'll update my review when, or if,...
Read moreLast night we gathered for a company Christmas dinner at Paula's. We had a larger party, 18 people, and were seated upstairs. The service was mediocre at best. We weren't informed of any specials from our servers, instead we passed one special menu around the entire group, one by one. On to the food...
In my past visit to Paula's, I was very happy with my meal so I had high hopes. I ordered the blackened salmon and a house salad. The salad was a sad sight. The lettuce was soggy iceberg with a few tomatoes and a small sprinkle of cheese topped with a ton of dressing. Not to worry, I was very much looking forward to the main dish.
Our main meals arrived and I was quite underwhelmed. My salmon looked pretty lonely sitting on a plate with what appeared to be an ice cream scooper shaped "plop" of mashed potatoes. You know, like the ones you got in the high school cafeteria. Overall the salmon was decent, I didn't taste a single hint of it being blackened like the menu said, but the bleu cheese topping was pretty good. The biggest disappointment came with the side of potatoes. I took a bite and quickly realized they were instant potatoes. Terrible. Not only were the potatoes instant, but they were bland, no seasoning whatsoever and literally one chive in the mix. The menu noted them as herb mashed potatoes, or something to that effect.
My date's meal was equally disappointing. She ordered the seabass which was incredibly bland, no seasoning on it at all, and her "side" of vegetables was three pieces of chewy, overcooked, cold asparagus.
At the end of the day, the food at Paula's is way over priced, especially for what you end up getting. I'd recommend avoiding Paula's, there are other places in Fort Wayne where you can spend the same and have a much better...
