Sakura is a lesser-known gem of the sushi options Fort Wayne offers with excellent variety in speciality rolls and reasonably priced simpler rolls. Unfortunately for this review, I've never ordered any non-sushi entree. The most recent trip was one where my wife and I enjoyed a seaweed salad, which was a decent portion without the excessive sesame oil dressing that sometimes accompanies a seaweed salad and was fresh and delicious. We ordered Sakura's specialty roll, the Sweetheart Roll, that was offered this evening, as well as a Fire Island roll, a rainbow roll, and an Alaskan roll. The specialty roll featured a small seaweed salad contained within a ring of the roll pieces to be used as garnish, while a combination of sauces had been used decoratively across the top. We really enjoyed the more uncommon inclusion of the seaweed salad, but the sauces almost took away from the naturally great flavors the roll offered inside. We hadn't tried the Fire Island roll in the past, but had enjoyed Sakura's "Mexican" roll, and this was a slightly upgraded version of that roll that was excellent. We also always love the rainbow roll, and this one had less avocado than I usually see, but had plenty of fish to cover it. We also enjoyed the solid standby Alaskan roll (salmon, avocado, and cucumber). In the past we've enjoyed their sake offerings but didn't tonight. We didn't have room for dessert, and usually don't, either. My wife and I typically avoid gluten out of habit, but don't often mind having a little here and there. Fortunately, while the tempura offered by Sakura is indeed flour based (so the semi-unsure waiter informed me after checking), they had no problem withholding it from the Sweetheart Roll and Fire Island roll. We've also had great success with last-minute reservations at Sakura and have always been treated courteously and promptly served. The prices are competitive with other sushi establishments in town, and you can enjoy a nice selection at a reasonable price using their roll combinations--we often enjoy "combination C" which features a lot of fish. This was likely at least our eighth visit and we don't see any reason not to keep coming back. Yum!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Sakura for lunch, and it was one of the best experiences I’ve had in a long time. The highlight of the meal was the edamame, which was simply amazing—fresh, perfectly seasoned, and a great start to our lunch. The fried rice was another standout, flavorful without being greasy, which is a rarity. The steak-to-vegetable ratio was perfect, providing a well-balanced and satisfying dish. The restaurant itself was clean and well-maintained, which added to the overall pleasant dining experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, providing impeccable service throughout our visit. Every aspect of the meal exceeded my expectations, and I left feeling completely satisfied. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for a delightful lunch experience.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE - 2X! BUYER BEWARE!!!

On Friday, I ordered takeout over the phone: 2 Soups + 1 green salad. Upon picking up my order and driving 30 minutes home, I discovered that I'd been charged for an extra salad and neither salad had dressing. I was very disappointed. But imagine my chagrin when I called to report the issue and was told I couldn't speak to a manager (although I could overhear the whole conversation where someone was speaking to a manager who simply said they wouldn't get on the phone). By then ticked off, I demanded a manager get on the phone or threatened I would write review after review about my experience. Finally, a sweet young lady got on the phone and eventually refunded my entire order. Problem solved right? WRONG!

I attempted to give Sakura another chance because I think their food is good. So today, I ordered online, Salmon Bento Box + extra ginger sauce. Being smarter this time, I checked my order in the car. Again, chagrined over it being incorrect and incomplete I trudged back inside. I was missing my salad, the extra ginger sauce and any soy sauce. I explained what was missing to the cashier and he said that they no longer include the green salad with carry outs (although the website clearly says its included). I promptly requested a manager. Again, no manager comes out but the cashier returns with a green salad and chides me that in the future I should know that a green salad won't be included. Then an angry little man comes up with the wrong sauce. When I tell him he's brought the wrong sauce, he makes some comment suggesting I don't know what I'm talking about before walking back to get what I asked. And, as if this whole experience wasn't awful enough, upon his return with the right sauce, he refuses to put it in my hand. HOW ABSOLUTELY PETTY!!

Let me tell you, I will NEVER return here again. EVER! And I will be sharing this terribly poor experience with anyone that mentions an interest in eating Japanese food in Fort Wayne....

Don’t accidentally order the wrong thing from this restaurant. I accidentally ordered the wrong thing, admitted that I accidentally ordered the wrong thing and asked to order hibachi after learning that they have two different menus when I was only giving one. Workers were allowed to assume that I was not willing to pay for the original meal in addition to the second meal, and I, along with mother and my daughter were told that we could not be served here. A woman who was acting as manager on duty wouldn’t give us a reason and said the owner said we couldn’t be served. I asked for his phone number as she wouldn’t go and get him after saying he was in the back. I continued to ask why can’t we be served the meal we asked for it was admitted by our male server that it had been assumed we wouldn’t pay. When we left I called the owner who was condescending and admitted that in restaurants when a customer sends something back it’s assumed they don’t want to pay for it and that when his workers called him ( as he was not even in the building) it was said to him that they thought we would find something wrong with the second meal and send it back. He stood firm that what his workers did was ethical, never offered an apology, and told us we have the choice to eat anywhere. I will be doing just that and never...
