h, MAN, do I wish there was a restaurant like Solbird Kitchen & Tap closer to home.
On a recent visit to Fort Wayne my wife and I were trying to figure out where to have dinner. Our son-in-law asked "Have you tried Solbird? They have amazing tacos!". Wellll...that's all that took!
The decor at Solbird is nicely done. It's not bright and flashy. It's not overdone. It's not obnoxious. There's enough to give the place some ambiance without being overwhelming. It's dignified and suits the establishment.
Solbird has a combination tables: bar seating, high tops, and regular height table. We're always high top sitters.
Oh, and can we talk about these chairs? At least the tall chairs? Those things are HEAVY! If I'd have known they were that heavy I'd have eaten Cheerios® for breakfast.
Our server was a very delightful young lady named Soleil (yes, like the actress Soleil Moon Frye). She was amazingly fun and just....cool.
I'm not going to lie. My son-in-law mentioned the Mexican Poutine and that's all it took to get me in the door. My wifey was interested in the Korean tacos.
Our food was delivered hot -- VERY hot -- and accurate, and I couldn't get the Mexican Poutine in my belly! It was 100% delicious in a way that I did not see coming, and I'm guessing that was the Chorizo. It made it AWESOME.
The staff (all women as far as we saw) were all friendly, helpful, and always busy cleaning and stocking.
The overhead music was 80s and 90s and was at a perfect level and not overwhelmingly loud. It gave the restaurant an upbeat, fun vibe.
There's a sign on the door that says that no one under 21 is allowed to enter. I don't if that's an absolute, or that you can't eat here if you have kids under 21. No matter, I don't object to a restaurant having a rule like that. It's not an altogether bad thing to have adults-only establishments.
Yea, if there was a Solbird close to home I'd be there every night...which makes it a good thing that it's about 4...
Read moreI used to love Solbird, and don’t get me wrong, the food is great. But lately, the customer service has been absolutely horrendous.
Firstly, they’re closed the entire week of July 4th. Which I can understand, but google says they are still open. And instead of having the company phone turned off, they had someone manually declining calls. This made it feel like they were just ignoring our calls as it would ring a different amount of times, and then get sent to voicemail.
Then we called once from a different phone hoping to get an answer, and when they did they were incredibly condescending and rude. Saying, “Don’t you ever take a holiday?” In a very rude tone. Personally, I don’t know of any other business that closes for a week for the 4th of July.
Once again, I completely would’ve understood if they didn’t handle the situation terribly. If you’re on vacation, why take the work phone with you?
I feel like this situation could’ve been avoided completely if they would just have a voicemail that says they’re closed.
0/5 Stars, never coming here again, and telling everyone I know to...

I called Solbirds to reserve a table, I stated that I had 6 adults and two children, one of which would need a high chair. The host said she could accommodate us for 12:15. My entire family was meeting me from Ohio. My husband headed into the restaurant to be seated with my son in a car seat. Upon arrival he was immediately told they would not honor our reservation as we have kids with us, EVEN though it was stated in our reservation that we had children. Aside from the fact that we were now left without reservations for lunch, the host was incredibly rude and directly stated I don’t even know who you talked too.
All of this to say, I understand Indiana’s bar age rule. What I don’t appreciate is the rudeness of the host, the incompetence to honor a reservation that they had taken an hour prior, and the the hostile...
