Woah. I think I just had the best waffle of my life, no lie. It's everything you hoped all of the other waffles you've eaten and were left feeling a little empty and let down by, would have been.
I got the naked waffle, the first and cheapest on the list containing 6 other waffle options (waftions, if you will). At first I was wondering if I would be offered syrup, as is my normal experience with waffles. I was not, but I was asked if I wanted whipped cream to which I replied what I always reply to this question - a resounding "yes". It came out looking unassuming, sprinkled with powdered sugar, accompanied by the side of whip. I cut it into strips, dipped it, took my first bite, and the rest is now history for me.
I would go on to live a happy life if this one naked waffle was the only kind of waffle I ever ate again. It may sound dramatic, to write this passionately about a waffle when there are much more serious matters out there in the world, but maybe that's exactly why I'm writing about this waffle. The world can be cold and dark and hard, and this waffle was very literally none of those things. It brought an unexpected moment of enjoyment to an otherwise heavy week. Plus, if any waffle deserves to be written about, I've got to say, I believe it's this one.
The latte was good, not to belittle it. I am a 5 out of 10 on the coffee snobbery scale and I think this place actually does a great job on the coffee too, but this time, the waffle stole the...
Read moreNew to Fort Wayne, this charming coffee shop has popped up seemingly overnight. Owners were welcoming to every single person that walked into the cafe. I tried a cafe miel, the barista Marina took time to really connect with us. The waffle guy Tony by far so hospitable making sure we enjoyed our waffle. They talked about the future hopes and aspirations of the shop. It was truly an inspired visit.
The price range was completely reasonable for mostly everything being imported. The hot chocolate was rich and thick. The latte's espresso was mild but created a cohesive creamy latte. The waffle's are not a "normal" batter style, they are truly unique in the Fort Wayne market. I went for the double chocolate pecan. It was delicious!
The customers were all different types, seemed like college wifiers, old friends meeting up, couple trying a new place, a family looking for a coffee experience that reminded them of home.
The story behind this coffee shop plays to the heart strings of global coffee culture. Be sure to bask in the coffee moment. Do not go in thinking to be served in under three minutes. Go in expecting to be taken care of. Expect tradition. Expect the wholesomeness of the "American dream" with ties to the rest of the world. It is truly a unique experience here in town. Hoping your experience is as good...
Read moreUpdated Review: United coffee continues to exceed our expectations. The hot chocolate is still amazing and the waffles deserve their own special trip. The staff is still as wonderful as before and we will continue to come here for the waffles and hot chocolate.
My SO and I heard about United Coffee from her mother and thought we'd give it a try. We were told to get there early if we wanted good waffles as they can run out quickly.
When we got there the couple were energized, enthusiastic, and friendly towards us and explained who they were and what they were trying to do. We felt very welcomed and appreciated while there and ordered waffles and the Italian hot chocolate. They didn't have syrup and they didn't need to because syrup would have ruined the amazingly sweet waffles that we had (and I never have waffles without syrup). The hot chocolate was equally as good and we both agreed that we would be back for more.
Give them a chance and try out something new to Fort Wayne, they're really good and they have earned my business and we will be back for more waffles and hot chocolate in the future. Thank you to the couple that works there for making an amazing waffle and great quality...
