I usually give a wide berth to restaurants describing themselves as 'Asian fusion'. Pho-Shi drew me in with the promise of Vietnamese food. Having lived for two years in Hanoi, the restaurant's name had me expecting a range of phó and maybe some nem. I was let down on both counts. There was one Vietnamese soup on the menu (beef phó). And the fried spring rolls, while very good, were more Chinese than Vietnamese. The final blow to my initial expectation was that none of the fresh juices listed on the menu - or even the Vietnamese standard, a fresh lime soda, - was available. We settled for Sierra Mist and expected to be let down.
Having said that, the Thai food my husband and I ordered (Beef Pad Kee Mao for me. Pad Thai for him.) was really quite good. The restaurant is simple, but cheerful, the service is best described as casual, and friendly. The price neither cheap nor expensive. Let's call it reasonable. I'll go back, but with my expectations now in line with...
Read moreMy partner and I visited because she wanted sushi and I wanted noodles. This place seemed like a compromise. Instead, we should have compromised on the cuisine because neither of us left happy. The sushi was weirdly flavored with sesame oil, and the fish tasted plasticky. The wasabi was very low quality and tasted of horseradish. (Sakura has much better sushi). The coconut bubble tea was a little bit thin and the popping bubbles were odd and tasted a bit like cough syrup. I prefer tapioca pearls, but have been known to enjoy popping bubbles in the past. The thai tea was average. (Bahn Mi Barista still has the best bubble tea in Fort Wayne) My pad thai was decent, but not spicy at all and I ordered it one level from Thai Hot. (Yummy Thai Restaurant is a much better choice). My partner liked her mango sticky rice, but I thought it was quite gluey and overcooked. Overall, I would not return because the prices were unreasonable the the...
Read moreI just went here for dinner for the first time today. It might be the greatest experience I've ever had at a restaurant. It's owned by a single Vietnamese family. Satra, who served me, was so kind and had a bright personality, even though (I assume) she'd been working all day and must have been tired. She didn't try to hurry me up, even though I am slow to order. Wholesome and sweet Christian family. It was by far the best sushi and pho I've ever had. Presentation was beautiful. I'm a bit sensitive to sound and I was pleased to hear that the music was not disruptive. I was nervous that the hot pho might be served in plastic (I try to avoid microplastics, especially in my food) and I was so pleased when I realized that the bowls are ceramic! I got such a good feeling there. It was worth the slightly higher price, just knowing that I was helping this wonderful and...
