The last time we were at the Bluebonnet Bakery was approximately 25 years ago. What a major disappointment we experienced today in the taste & quality of the cream horns, petit fours, and eclairs! The cream horns were doughy, chewy, and filled some kind of whipped cream substance. The cream was “airy”, and had absolutely no flavor. Traditionally they are filled with something called fluffy icing, and should have a flaky texture. We have a friend whose parents owned a bakery decades ago and that’s what they used. The petit fours looked delicious, and the cake & glaze were great, BUT again no distinctive flavor in the glaze or cake. The ones that are traditional usually have a slight almond extract flavor, and these were bland. The eclairs had some indistinguishable filling with a whipped “milk” (?) chocolate topping. Common known eclairs have a custard filling with a fudge like chocolate topping. We actually ended up throwing all of the items away. We got most for a party, but could not force those sub par items on our guests. We ordered 24 cream horns, 6 petit fours, because that’s the minimum for a pre-order, and the same for the eclairs. We even gave $10 in the tip jar because we were pumped at the thought of sampling some tasty baked goods. We gladly drove from Collin County, which took about a 1.5 hours, because we were going to visit some familiar sights, and especially the bakery. We are senior citizens, so we’ve been around long enough to compare taste & quality of many foods that used to be prepared with the best quality of ingredients.Bluebonnet Bakery has failed to maintain the standards of what a great traditional bakery should be. We will never be back even if we’re in the area. $90 NOT well spent! There’s certainly nothing wrong with innovative cooking as long as it’s tasty & satisfying, but many people still prefer the traditional items in...
Read moreMy family, and my business, have been ordering cakes, cookies, cupcakes, and most of all, Birthday cakes from BBB for 20+ years. My birthday was last week, turned 52, and my daughter ordered my special birthday cake a week before. All I wanted was a chocolate on marble sheet cake with “HBD Dad” on it. It looked good but when we served it up to friends and family everyone had the same look on their face, me included. It was awful. The icing around the edges hard, the cake was stale, and there was barely a hint of marble, mostly an odd color of yella. Later that night I told my wife I was taking it back the next morning and asking for a fresh cake. When I got there I told the two girls at the counter about the bad cake, took the cake back in, minus 5-6 pieces. The girls took down my info and said the manager would call me to discuss my options. I didn’t want a refund or credit. Just a new, fresh cake. The manager finally called me at 2:30pm. After sharing with her our experience with said bday cake, she was very apologetic, professional, and took ownership of the poor quality, in agreement it was stale and without the expected marble. She wanted to make it right, and asked what I wanted. She was going to bring in one of the bakers the next day to make it. I just wanted the cake my daughter had ordered. It was ready the next day at 4pm! When I picked it up I could already smell the sweetness and freshness. We cut into it that evening, night and day difference. Probably the best cake I’ve ever had from there. I applaud BBB and the manager. Mistakes are made every day and not a lot of people take ownership and make it right. I have shared this story with several friends and family, and I encouraged those who haven’t ordered from here before to give them a call! The pic I attached is of the delicious HBD Cake#2!

Read more4-11-23 - Updated with more photos - met 2 friends there today (needed a place where we could visit as we were coming from different areas of the Metroplex) ... only 1/3 of us got a cookie - she said it was okay (not enough toffee) ... bathroom stalls still have no latch to close the door...tea was fresh but still wish that there were other sugar substitutes available beside Sweet N Low and Sugar ... as I approached the tea dispenser for a refill, another lady was asking for Splenda - told the girl that Sweet & Low upsets her stomach and they need more choices.
4-7-23 - I've previously been to Blue Bonnet Bakery a few times over the years ... today it was just "okay." We got in line and when we got to the counter we had to "ask" to see a menu - the girl stated they keep them behind the counter (which makes no sense to me - I know they are a bakery but they also sell food). She immediately asked what we wanted and we didn't have time to really look at our choices - I went with the first item which was a chicken salad sandwich. I asked for my bread to be toasted. It took about 15 minutes to come out and my toasted bread was completely cooled. It tasted good but it should have been warm in my opinion - makes me think it sat in the back for a while 1) because the bread had completely cooled off and 2) because it took so long to be brought out to us. I will say my sandwich was good as well as the chips (despite the cold bread) and the tea was fresh! I would personally like to see more sweeter options than Sweet and Low and Sugar. Before leaving, I went to the ladies room - there were 2 stalls and neither had locks on the door and they would not close completely so, there's no privacy if someone...
