Overall: 4.2 (me) & 4.4 (husband)/5 (dine in)
We had a reservation so we were seated right away. They were very accommodating and were able to move our reservation up to the same time as our friends. The seating set up is like a square sushi bar so it was difficult to hear the two friends on the opposite end of me.
My husband thinks ROL is equivalent to KazuNori. I thought we had better hand roll elsewhere but I'm not a sushi lover like my husband so our opinions differed a bit.
Dragon Fruit Colada ($12): The better of the 2 drinks we tried and the bartender's favorite drink (per our friend). It tastes similar to an ube colada I had at another place but it's made with dragonfruit instead. Also they had the dragonfruit mix in the Starbucks cup so I'm wondering if they just mix that with the coconut cream and add a bit of the rum infused sake.
Lychee Lush ($12): This was like a spiked lychee soda. I'm not a fan of carbonated drinks so I prefer a lychee martini over this.
Dassai 45 Sake ($29): Our friend shared some of their sake and it's so good! It's sweet but not overly sweet.
Uni Toro Premium Handroll ($29): I wasn't a huge fan of this one. The toro was okay and the uni was too cold. My husband likes the creaminess of the uni though.
Lobster Truffle Premium Handroll ($18): The lobster was juicy. It had a subtle flavor but it didn't taste like truffle. My husband thought it didn't have any flavor but it's probably because he ate the side with all the caviar.
5 Set Rolls ($26): This came with salmon, spicy tuna crunch, scallop, yellowtail, and albacore. Surprisingly, the albacore was both our favorite. The spicy tuna crunch was my second favorite then the yellowtail. I was pretty shocked that the salmon and scallop were my least favorite. They just didn't taste...
Read moreGreat hand rolls, food and service! These are the kinds of rolls where the seaweed is toasted and then quickly prepared one by one and served to you. They have some easy pre-set menu combos that have a variety of hand rolls which makes it easy if you want to try different hand rolls. I went here specifically for the rolls but on the menu they also had Kaisendon which is a bowl with different fish proteins (salmon, shrimp, scallop, imitation crab, roe and more), cucumber, seaweed and rice. You eat it but leave some in the bowl before finishing it and they add a broth to it so it becomes like a soup. It's like having two meals in one and it's so good! It was a much bigger bowl of food than I had anticipated so I would recommend sharing this or only ordering an extra roll or two if you're super hungry. It's a really good value for the quality, variety and amount of food you get.
The service was also great. You can add yourself to the wait-list on the yelp app and while the estimate was off at the beginning it wasn't too long of a wait. The person making our food was super nice and I felt like they had great timing for bringing out the food. The server was also so sweet. She gave good recommendations and even offered us some soda to go.
Overall, I think this place is great for quality, service and variety. You can order some foods on the lighter side like rolls or get a full, satisfying meal in the items like the Kaisendon. I will definitely come back next time I'm...
Read moreWe came here with reservations on Friday at 7 pm and got seated at 7:20. We had a difficult time deciding on what to order so they did let us order from the takeout menu that had maki boxes. This was very nice to allow us to get more variety. We decided on getting a salmon hand roll, mixed donburi, shishito peppers, and maki box with scallop, spicy tuna crunch, toro, and yellowtail.
Starting with the shishito peppers, they were flavorful and not overcooked. They still had a good integrity to them. It paired well with the dipping sauce, which was eel sauce based.
The salmon hand roll came next and was good quality, nothing extraordinary. Same across the board for the maki box. All the fish was fresh and it was simple, no frills.
Finally, our favorite was the donburi. It came with yuzu kosho sauce, which was potent so only a little bit was needed. I enjoyed the salmon in the donburi most, it had rich and complex flavors. The albacore was lacking, not much flavor. Also, great fish to rice ratio with the donburi bowl.
We felt the service was good, despite the slight wait. The decor was clean, and modern with good music that wasn't too loud and overall giving off a good vibe. They don't have the most extensive menu but good enough for a...
