Disappointing.
My friend, who had just thrown me a bridal shower nearby, and I arrived at Fini's Landing around 10pm on Saturday. We went there because it's really the only bar in her immediate area aside from La Encantata Mall, and she thought they had a classic rock band playing that we could dance to. We were a bit taken back by the U of A kids on steel drums, but the music was decent, so we stayed. The atmosphere was good initially, and the decor is really fun.
We sat and waited at the bar for quite a while, eventually helping ourselves to menus from the hostess stand. When the bartender finally came over to greet us, he commented on the fact that we had been waiting there for about 10 minutes. We politely suggested that it felt more like 5 minutes, and he argued back that we really had been there "for like, 10 minutes." (Really??) We ordered two very mediocre pina coladas (the bartender assured us they were fabulous) and an appetizer of cheese enchiladas to share. My friend really wanted to dance, so she asked someone who looked like an employee (hard to tell who's an employee and who's a patron) to move a table to make room in front of the band, which they did. We both danced a bit, and another couple got up and started dancing, too.
Nearly 30 minutes later, our cheese enchiladas arrived. We commented at that point about how long that wait had been (how long does it really take to make two cheese enchiladas and scoop out some condiments??). When we finally got our bill, we were a bit surprised to see that the two drinks and enchiladas were a little more than $25! We asked the bartender if he could do anything about the bill, for the shitty service and mediocre drinks (I make a better pina colada from the grocery store freezer section). He spat back at us that we should pay $25, he would pick up the $0.46, and we wouldn't have to tip him.
We were so disgusted we simply walked out. My friend asked to speak to a manager right before we left. She was directed to someone, but told me later after she had gone back another day specifically to talk to a manager, that whoever she'd been directed to was not, in fact, a manager.
While I realize this is in the foothills, I've spent FAR less at RA (down the street at La Encantata) and had a FAR better experience. I don't frequent Fini's Landing very much since I live in Vail, and this experience has me feeling happy that this isn't MY neighborhood bar! Business was steady, but by no means was it a packed house. Clearly, there are some serious staffing, training, and attitude...
Read moreThey came to the desert museum a few weeks back and I was super impressed with them and what they are about. I am still impressed that they only purchase from sustainable sources. So we decided to do family dinner there Sunday. I ordered the cevice because that's what I was super impressed with initially. What I got was not ceviche, but more like a seafood gazpacho. Actually, I've have for substance in gazpacho. It was all liquid and about 6 or 7 small bites of seafood. Btw, I paid almost $13 for that. We ordered the kids some kids baskets. Now, at most places, the kids drink is included in the kids meal pricing. Not here. You will pay $3.25 for your kids drink just like yours. So a hot dog, some fries, and drink will cost you $11.25. for a hot dog. Let that sink in. Every five minutes or so our server would tell us our food would "be right up." But it wasn't. We waited 30 minutes after we got the kids food and our appetizer before we got our food. I order tacos. It's what I really wanted, and had a hard choosing this. They are almost $5 a taco. It doesn't come as a meal with beans and rice. You have to order that all on the side. So for 3 tacos and a side of beans it's almost $20. The tacos were ok. They certainly weren't worth $5 a taco though. they came out barely warm, probably due the fact our server was too busy watching the soccer game on TV until she finally realized that maybe our food was ready. My husband got a hamburger that he did say was good, but then again hamburgers are hard to mess up. Second point on that, a hamburger should be better than the seafood, at a seafood restaurant. I can definitely say we will never be back here. After food and tip for two adults and two children, we paid $82 and I was left with such disappointment after being so initially excited. Anyway, feel free to have your own experience, and who knows, yours might be better. But...
Read moreSo I by chance happened to arrive minutes before the Booth band began a set. Lady's tending bar were great, my beer "Tucson Blonde" recommendation was a delicious libation.. Band was on point.. lip singing along to sweet baby James standing next to my chair to low key feel the binaural beat through my body with my glasses down eyes shut. Was in a groove having enjoyed 1 beer and was at the door leaving... Stopped to hear the song play out... Then security.... Walks up to say hi... Thought he might comment on my custom chopper or chaps... But after small talk turned to an interogation on my suttle dancing that I use when I'm at church singing worship songs (same moves) it turns out that he was trying to exercise his authority to kick me out. Glad I was on my way out already... Kinda bummed that when I asked him if he really was doing it or playing he through the bar tenders under the bus saying they asked him to do it. Wow that couldn't have been farther from the truth. No worries Finis, still gave you 4 stars but that is a rating from overall experience over years... Current door man excluded... dishonest/...
