I called and asked if they had any organic, grass-fed or wild caught food and the little boy who answered said he didn't think so and thought I would be okay with they reply. I began to ask him to ask the chef. He returned to the phone with an odd reply that suggest he did not ask what I asked him to, so I asked him to write down the questions. Next time he came back and sure enough they had grass fed antelope, elk and wild caught fish. Upon reading the menu I found out they also had free-range chicken. I'm pretty sure he told the server that I was rude for calling him out and I then got attitude from her. I asked for my elk to not have char on it and I believe it offended her as well. I got my elk and it was charged. Since it was already an odd situation I didn't send it back and I tipped her 20%.
I returned the next night to get a new server who had really really gross energy. He was male but feminine, very rude and snotty. I can tell he usually gets away with walking all over people. I guessed now both of these people passed on that I'm problematic. I simply asked him to find out if I could get 9 ounces or elk instead of the 6 that they serve and how much it was. I could tell this upset him. He returned with bread and didn't say a word. When he was walking away I asked him if he found out what I had asked and he replied with, "you will get a normal large serving." I asked what that meant and he ran away. I went to the front to speak to a supervisor and request a new waiter. The two owners came out and immediately gave me attitude and didn't listen to any explanation of mine. I could tell the husband is a very angry and controlling man with nasty energy that makes everyone around him enter a state of panic. I'm a large guy with tattoos which didn't help, but I was very calm, warm and clear but it didn't matter. The husband said fine I'll cook you 9 ounces and I asked how much it would be and he said, "let me go calculate that so I can give you an exact price" in a sloppy and gross tone. And I said thank you. He ran back to the kitchen and I asked the wife for a new server. She said, "well that's fine because you lost the respect of the one you had." I asked if she was kidding, heard anything I said and if I was in the twilight zone. Now in a state of panic because I'm confronting her ignorant insanity, she asked me to leave, picked up the phone and pretend to call the cops. I'm still digesting what had happened but it was one of the weirdest situations I've ever encountered. These poor lost souls.
To all the workers there including the wife, run away from that male owner. He is ruining all of you. Spread your wings and leave his control that cripples you. And take some notes. I know it's a small town, you're not that experienced with communicating and most people will allow you to do and say whatever you want, but this is very poor customer service and it greatly lacks professionalism. I know you deal with mostly tourists, some being rude, that you will probably never see again but that is a horrible excuse to act so poorly and unfair. This is coming from a man who has worked in over 10 restaurants to pay for his advanced schooling and now owns multiple million dollar companies, is a Brazilian jiu-jitau black belt, world champion and has a successful self-help book. Wake up, your ways are most definitely not the best. Stop feeding off each other and go...
Read moreAccording to the Internet, the best recent estimate I found is Torrey, UT has a population of 257 people living there as of 2022. Well we met some of them on on recent visit and everyone we met was so nice and friendly. Of course the draw there is Capitol Reef National Park and the gorgeous scenery these residents get to see each and every day. And being a foodie and a very competent gourmet cook at home, according to our friends, I'm always looking for the best local (no chain) restaurants when we travel. On Friday May 31 we chose to dine at Hunt & Gather Restaurant. What a gem in this little town! Of course it is not open year 'round due to the population but fortunately for us, it was open when we chose to visit Torrey to check another item off of our bucket list! My husband and I shared the King Crab Bisque (exquisite!). I chose the High Mountain trout and it was perfectly prepared, medium for my tastes. The herbs used complimented the wonderful flavor of the trout. (I was so glad to have "fresh" trout...on another bucket list trip to Montana, they had trout on the menu, but it was not fresh but frozen...oh my!) The rice pilaf and mixed vegetables were the perfect sides to this marvelous trout. And I don't know how it is done, but my plate included the cutest little rabbit created out of a carrot! My husband had one of the daily specials, the Red River Bison Special Pot Pie. We do not have the opportunity to have bison that often in central Ohio where we are from. The pot pie was divine, very large portion with so much tender bison in it along with fresh asparagus, tiny Yukon gold potatoes and spring onions in it. The crust was wonderful. I had two of the margaritas because they were so tasty! My husband had a glass of red blend wine with his dinner. The wine list was more than adequate and the adult beverages were reasonably priced. We wanted to catch the sunset so we chose to take the Lemon Curd and Raspberry Meringue with us to go. It traveled fine. And it was spectacular!!! We thought the prices were very good for the quality and expertise of the chef. Serafina was a delight as our friendly, efficient server. We highly recommend dining there if you are in the area. Although we made the decision to dine there without a reservation, I wouldn't recommend you do that. You might end up being...
Read moreI’m shocked at how many great reviews this restaurant has. I see that the owner responds to many reviews which is very admirable. However, here’s my honest review:
This is a “fake-fancy” restaurant. Fake electric candles on the table - real candles are hard to come by I guess. Butter comes out in square packages. Diners do that, and I love diners. Look it’s just butter, but you’d expect more from a place charging $30+ for their main courses. Order a drink - comes with a Coors Light coaster. Music is light pop music covers. Lol. Tables look like nice diner tables, and much more I turned a blind eye to.
Courses: specifically the Lamb Platter special and the Filet Mignon. Lamb Platter was doused in sauce. The amount of sauce makes you think you ordered a small portion of soup. Filet Mignon, was ordered as Medium, came as extremely rare. But, also comes with a “small portion of [very sweet raspberry] soup.” Very sincerely asked for it to be cooked more and had it sent back. Filet comes back, slightly better but I forgot that the steak tastes still tastes like raspberry/ demi- glaze. No taste of steak or meat whatsoever.
Clearly upset, we asked for the check. The kind waitress noticed we were upset but went to grab the check anyway and apologized if the food wasn’t to my liking. It’s usually courtesy for a manager to approach a disappointed customer. But not here I guess. We left as quickly as we could. If you’ve made it this far into the review, you’re probably the owner. Hi! I hope our experience was...
