Not a good experience. My wife and I went here to try it out for the first time. She ordered Ramen and I got the beef bowl and an order of Inari.
She liked her Ramen bowl however I didnt like it at all. Flavor was off and broth felt weak. She gave me the pork from it and after one bite I discarded it. I LOVE TO EAT and almost never discard food... This was extremely bland and dry. Fairly disappointing. My beef bowl turned out to have a long hair wrapped around a big portion of the meat. They dont wear hair nets there unfortunately. I took the bowl up and they took it back immediately and made a replacement bowl shortly after. The meat in the replacement bowl was tough and didn't have much flavor either. If it weren't for the soy sauce I put in it I wouldn't had eaten it. The only good thing in my opinion was the Inari. Iced tea was OK too. They were busy the whole time so they must be doing something right. Not might cup of tea though. Maybe I picked the...
Read moreAs much as I looked forward to eating here and trying their ramen (I eat ramen everywhere I go) I was sadly not impressed. Don't get me wrong, the broth was delicious in the tonkotsu ramen, however the bowl seemed a little empty for the price of ramen. The ramen here did not include an egg and consisted of: 1 fish cake, a few bamboo stalks, 2-3 very thin (deli style) slices of pork. The noodles were also nothing special, there were a fair amount of them, but they seemed a bit over cooked. I also tried their sushi and ordered a spicy tuna roll which was not spicy in the least and virtually flavorless. Every last bit of the roll lacked in flavor even with the sesame seeds surrounding the rice. I will be returning to try other menu items, but if you are looking for phenomenal ramen, try Obon in the...
Read moreI'll be honest: I go to Ikkyu mostly for their ramen, which is only served Thursday through Saturday.
This review is based almost entirely on their ramen, although I have had their bento boxes on occasion. First thing's first, and that's their broth. For their Tonkatsu ramen, the broth is simply excellent. One of the great dangers of ramen is a broth that is far too salty for it's own good, and the staff at Ikkyu manage to prepare a broth that is both flavorful and well-balanced. The variety of ingredients in the ramen itself (naruto, pork, bamboo shoots, etc) is high, and adds to the meal without crowding the noodles.
The service is fast, the staff are polite, and the prices are reasonable. This is a hole-in-the-wall that you don't want to miss if you're a fan of ramen, or Japanese...
