We finally decided to give Ocean House a try, and honestly, we went in with a bit of a sigh. This location has seen so many restaurants come and go – two duds before this, in our experience – so we were definitely a little hesitant. But the craving for some good seafood was strong, and you can't beat the convenience of the spot.
From the outside, it looks inviting, even fun. But pulling into that surprisingly empty parking lot on a Sunday afternoon did make us pause. And then, we stepped inside. This is where things got a little frustrating. There was no hostess in sight, and we just stood there in the waiting area feeling pretty invisible. Servers kept walking right past us, eyes glued away, clearly avoiding any kind of contact. It was genuinely unwelcoming, and I'll admit, we were seriously close to just turning around and leaving. Luckily, a hostess finally appeared and got us seated promptly.
Thankfully, from that moment on, things really turned around. And a huge part of that was Chris, our server and bartender. He was absolutely wonderful from start to finish – attentive, friendly, just a real pro. He truly made our meal enjoyable.
Now, for the food! My seafood boil was truly excellent. It was fresh, packed with flavor, and exactly what I was hoping for. My husband, though, wasn't quite as impressed with his hibachi. He really missed the interactive, fresh-off-the-grill experience you get at other hibachi places. So, a bit of a mixed review there.
Overall, our experience at Ocean House ended up being just "okay." The quality of the seafood and Chris's fantastic service were definite highlights. But that initial feeling of being overlooked when we walked in really stuck with us.
Ocean House has all the potential to be a fantastic seafood destination. They just desperately need to work on their front-door welcome. Even a simple, "Welcome to Ocean House! Someone will be right with you," or "Have you been helped?" would make a world of difference. A little warmth and acknowledgment right at the start can go a long way in making guests feel valued and excited...
Read moreI won’t even lie, in my 39yrs of living, this was probably the best experience I’ve had in a restaurant all round. As someone who has worked in food service previously, I noticed how smoothly everything ran, like a well oiled machine. Our host (I didn’t catch his name) was very quick with greeting us and helping the couple in front of us to their seats. The manager was very thorough and helpful, he showed us to our seats before the host even returned, and I saw him help with front of house repeatedly, immediately report to back of house when a staff member came out asking for assistance, checked on us more than once without intruding, and even asked all the tables about a vehicle in the parking lot that may be theirs that the door had been left open on. Our server, Josh was also very attentive without intruding as well. He checked on us often in passing and got me anything extra that I had asked for. The food was very good, as well as the experience of coming to the table in a steamed bag. My husband got 1/2lb crab legs, 1/2lb black muscles, shrimp, 2 corn, potatoes and an egg. I got 1/2lb crab legs, like 8-10 crawfish, 1corn, potatoes and an egg… with our sweet teas, the total was a VERY reasonable $67! The crab had tons of meat, the garlic was fresh, the seafood was fresh, the seasoning was on point. I asked Josh for lemons and they came quickly. Overall, the host checked on us twice, the manager did as well, Josh, many times, the food was great and more than reasonably priced. We were provided a bucket for scraps, a bib, gloves, and a large wet wipe; all very considerate. The busser stood off to the side of the room quietly observing which tables to clear and did so immediately as we were leaving. I left a $33 tip on our $67 bill because it was very well deserved! Our 8yr old insisted I bring him home some crab legs, and even our to-go bag was high quality material as far as to-go bags go. Overall, 10/10 on food, service, operations and price. Would...
Read moreMy wife and I visited for a Saturday date night, and overall, the experience had both highlights and areas for improvement. Starting with the positives—the exterior of the restaurant was very clean and inviting, setting a great first impression. The food also exceeded my expectations (Steak Hibachi). The crab legs and seafood boil were flavorful and satisfying, making it worth considering if you’re in the mood for seafood. That said, there are a few things we feel could enhance the overall experience. The interior atmosphere felt a bit mismatched—a mix between coastal beach décor and a nightclub vibe. The lighting was quite intense, making it hard to read the glossy menus due to the reflections, especially under the blue lights and the “space ceiling” with moving stars. The music added to the sensory overload and might benefit from a calmer tone to better suit a dining experience. The booth seating was uncomfortable, and while that may improve as the leather breaks in, it did affect our comfort. As for the food, the corn in the boil was a bit soggy and the butter served with it wasn’t warm. We also felt the hushpuppies would have been better complemented by butter rather than ranch, and honestly, they should be included with the meal considering the final price. Service-wise, our servers seemed rushed and didn’t have time to offer recommendations or engage with us. A bit more warmth and interaction would have gone a long way in making us feel welcome. Additionally, we didn’t see any management presence during our visit, which might have helped to round out the experience. Overall, there’s potential here and we hope the owners continue to refine the atmosphere and service. It’s worth a try if you’re craving seafood broil and don't want to brave the Orland traffic outside of Clermont—the core dishes are solid—but we’d love to see a few thoughtful improvements...
