My husband and I traveled to Frankfort, KY from Michigan for my husband's grandmother's 90th birthday. She chose Limewater for her bday dinner. I was a little disappointed she did not choose a local restaurant in Lexington. In the past 18 yrs of living or traveling to Frankfort, KY I have yet to be impressed with any of the local restaurants. My husband and I have been called food snobs which is fine if that's what you want to call people who enjoy quality food.
This was my first visit to Limewater. Charming historic home located on the KY river. Grandmother wanted to sit on the patio. It was 89 degrees and humid but it's her day. If it had been a little cooler, I would have greatly enjoyed the patio dining next to the river.
We started our meal with the roasted beets and pork belly lettuce cups. The roasted beets were beyond delicious. Perfectly roasted releasing their natural earthy flavor, accompanied with tangy whipped goat cheese, sweet balsamic reduction and sprinkled with pistachios. Just perfect! The pork belly lettuce cups were refreshing. The pork belly melted in my mouth, tender and full of flavor, the lettuce cold and crisp. Fabulous!
We all had the New England Style Halibut. It was funny when our meals arrived, my husband's mother thought the dish was served with some kind of orange cheese. This "orange cheese" was actually a carrot puree that was to die for. Sorry chef, mother is not a food snob :) The beurre blanc, buttery deliciousness, complimented the halibut and the shrimp stuffing with each bite. The meal was served with green beans not asparagus. Since I enjoy both vegetables equally, this did not bother me.
We did not order dessert. The appetizers and main dish were ample servings.
Overall, I was impressed with this local Frankfort, KY restaurant. The service and food exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend this restaurant to the locals and for those who venture to the...

Frankfort has a restaurant that is worth experiencing. Since moving back to my hometown, I have stumbled upon culinary disappointment after culinary disappointment and everyone around me raving about sub par cuisine. To know me is to know that I have spent most of my life exploring my passion for food and putting in the research to back it.
Limewater is set in the historic Glenn Willis house. We had the pleasure of enjoying our date night with mild weather and a beautiful view of the Kentucky River. The atmosphere is not only elegant, but equally inviting. Our server was attentive, friendly, and well versed in regard to the menu.
We enjoyed a house special cocktail (not pictured) that had the perfect balance of sweet and funk. Castle and Key gin, dry vermouth, house made pickled red onion juice, and a pearl onion garnish 🧅.
Bread sampler with butter and olive tampenade.
Radicchio and Romaine Caesar salad with focaccia crostini.
Tucker ordered the strip loin with fingerling potatoes and a romesco sauce. It was burring with umami flavor and a perfectly executed mid-rate temperature.
I ordered this beauty pictured below.
The New England styled Halibut.
It was absolutely delicious. Stuffed with Ritz cracker and shrimp filling on top of a sweet bed of carrot puree and beurre blanc with capers and haricots verts. The fish had a beautiful crust with a soft and flavorful center. On top you can see thinly slice potato ribbons that were perfectly seasoned and equally crunchy.
Easily one my top favorite dining experiences in my life . Local food. Farm to table...
Read moreWe opted for this spot during our weekend stay because the other local restaurants didn't appeal to us and didn't get high reviews. This restaurant did. Btw, our first night we drove to Lexington to find more food options.
Overall, this restaurant was ok. The location is the best thing. The home is nicely updated and quite a unique spot for dinner. It was very quiet there, however. Only 1 other table was present when we arrived at 7:30pm on a Saturday. Another two table joined shortly there after and both were sat directly adject to us. We felt invaded, especially considering the restaurant was empty and no music was playing. It was uncomfortable - we felt we had to whisper. I would have preferred a bit more space and privacy, especially because other tables were already set with dishware. I understand it's easier on the waitress but, it made for an awkward dinner.
Food was okay. The best part was our pork belly cups app. We asked our waitress to space out our app and entrees when she seem in a rush to take our entree order, so promised she would. She didn't. One plate was cleared for another. I ordered the special which was an orange beef. There wasn't much orange flavor - it needed some rind added to the mix, and the beef tasted like oil. Almost as if the oil had no been hot enough when the breaded beef was placed in the oil. The rice "cake" tasted of oil as well.
Maybe it was an off night, but the lack of customers tells...
