This review is only based on my first visit and 2 dishes. I hope this time was a fluke - I'd really like to give it another chance.
I ordered takeout and picking it up was no problem at all. The inside of the restaurant looks very nice and I was surprised by that because it doesn't really look like much from the outside. They have a sushi bar seating area and even had Asian-style tables that are low to the ground with room beneath the table so you can sit normally. I really liked the atmosphere.
I ordered the Spicy Eggplant with Chicken and my wife had the Green Curry with Chicken. The eggplant tasted great, but the dish as a whole was nearly flavorless and wasn't spicy at all - this wasn't because of any sort of spice tolerance - it without a doubt was missing ingredients. Nearly half, actually. The menu says "Stir fried eggplants, chili paste, peas, carrots, onions, baby corn, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, cashews, and zucchini" There wasn't any chili paste, peas, cashews or zucchini. There were quite a lot of bamboo shoots though, which was great. From what I could tell, the sauce was just oil and something that made it a little darker - maybe some soy sauce. The dish was really underwhelming and if I go back again I might try it again to see if it was a fluke - I really hope it was because if all the ingredients were used it sounds like a great dish. On top of the missing ingredients, the lunches were supposed to come with a salad or miso soup. I gave them the benefit of the doubt on this one though because that's not actually listed on the to-go menu, though their website says their entire menu is available for takeout.
I had a bite of my wife's curry and it tasted nice and had all the ingredients listed on the menu (including zucchini, so it missing from my dish likely wasn't because...
Read moreWe’ve been going to Koi for about 15 years now - we have recommended it as the number one sushi restaurant in Franklin to many people… that was before Wild Ginger came around, it made for tough competition. Anyway… I can’t say they are even in the top three any more :(
Why?…
Last time we went, their bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. It looked like years of grime had built up, so gross. It made me question what their kitchen must be like.
We went tonight and I was very unhappy about the price we paid for dinner. Their sushi prices have increased tremendously and I was so disappointed to see that the amount of fish they put in the sunflower roll (my favorite) is significantly less than it used to be.
My husband didn’t really enjoy his dish tonight - it is normally a good one.
Also… what was the MOST frustrating is: basic drinks (two kid lemonades, an unsweet tea, and soda water), two small side salads, and a small cup of miso soup cost $30 + $3 for tax + $4.50 for tip, for a grand total of $37.50 JUST for drinks and small starters… that is WAY overpriced and I feel like we were just majority ripped off + I’m not happy about it.
I really love this restaurant and have loved it for years, but I’m not very happy about their price increase. I can’t recommend it any longer and that...
Read moreReally enjoy the lighting, tables and booths at Koi Sushi and Thai. Overall great ambiance and a fresh sushi bar that you are able to see when you walk in the restaurant. Slow service, however the restaurant was packed. Took roughly 5-10 minutes after seating to get a drink & 35-45 to get our food after ordering.
The crab fried wontons are some of the best I’ve had in the Franklin/Nashville area. They taste very fresh. Had the Edamame as an app as well. It initially came out cold & I asked for it to be reheated, shortly afterwards of that it was some great edamame . Have to get it with their chili sauce!
For the entree we ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box & Rock N’ Roll sushi roll. All their sushi taste very fresh and is delicious. The Rock N’ Roll was a solid 8.5/10. The chicken teriyaki bento box comes with a good amount of food. Chicken teriyaki 8/10, shrimp & vegetable tempura 6/10, California Roll 8/10, & a ginger salad 9/10. Lastly, the bento box also comes with fried rice… this was the downfall surprisingly. I’m not quite sure how to describe it, but the fried rice tasted and smelled like dog kibble. Was not a big fan and hardly touched it, this is my personal opinion. 1/10 on...
