I just dinner in tonight, 7/5/2017, for the first time in a while. I get up going to this place and always loved it by Maybe since I have grown up now and as you could say b came more diverse in authentic Mexican cuisine, this place was a huge disappointment to me. I always remembered loving the chips and salsa and also their rice; however, on this visit, those two had fallen short for me. My rating for the food would be a one and a zero for the service. Service was awful! I had only waited about five minutes to be seated but that should not have even been since there were many tables open just no waitress to greet me and seat me. After that, I waited a generous time to get my order taken. The food took very long to come out. I would say around 20 minutes for one entree. I ordered combination #18, two chimichangas with side of rice and beans. First thing I tried was the rice. I was very hopeful in that however like I said, it was a major disappointment. The rice was very dry and lacked any flavor besides tomato. It tasted as if they had soaked rice in tomato sauce, pan fried it, and served it. Blah. Next I tried the beans which immediately tasted very burned as if they were sitting in a heating dish over heat all day long. I am a waitress so I know the day can be a little hectic and did not want to return my food because I know there is not much about that can be done. I tried the chimichanga which I got with chicken and the chicken was all white meat which tasted very very dry and again, tasted like tomatoes. You could even see the tomato sauce mixed with the chicken. The cheese inside was a cheddar cheese. The chimichanga tasted like a homemade cheese quesadilla. I could have probably made one better honestly. In all, I was very dissapounted with my food and the service. I had gotten the rest of my food to go since I could not finish... portions are big but the price is expensive so it makes sense. I had asked several times for my bill and after asking a few times and waiting a lot longer than I should, I began to time it. After waiting who knows how long before timing it, my waitress brought my bill to me after 13 minutes of waiting and asking. To me this is unacceptable granted they were not even busy. I do not recommend this place anymore. It is comparable to a dine in Taco Bell with more choices. Do not waste your time and money just to be let down; rather, drive a few extra minutes to downtown to have some real Mexican food. I understand, this place is located in Franklin which is not so ethnically diverse and Little Cancun has seem to adjust the palett of their food towards caucasians. I myself am one but still highly disappointed. This is not authentic Mexican cuisine. Highly...
Read moreWe've driven by here hundred of times and finally decided to give this authentic Mexican restaurant a try. It's small inside. There is a small bar area. We got there about 5:20pm on a Wednesday night. There were about 5 or 6 tables open at that time so we got seated right away. They had a sign up letting people know that they will be opening a 2nd location soon. 3040 S. Delaware Street near Bay View. Our waitress was friendly. She brought our chips and they were too hot to eat right away. Fresh out from the fryer!! There's 2 salsa bottles on the table. A red salsa that they said was hot but seemed mild to me. Also a mild green salsa verde. Both were good but I especially liked the verde. The menu is large. They do have daily dinner specials. For dinner we ordered the combination fajitas. Steak, chicken and shrimp. The steak was tough and chewy, honestly, not even edible. But the chicken was good! A little over cooked but still had a good flavor and the shrimp was good. It had a mix of grilled veggies. Green and red pepper, red onion and chopped tomatoes. It also came with a side of rice and beans. The 2nd dinner was the Red Snapper. I wasn't expecting it to be the whole fish but after the initial shock wore off, it was very good. Again, a little over cooked but good flavoring. Both dinners came with warm flour tortillas. With the fish, there was a side of rice and garnishings for the tacos. Lettuce, tomato, raw onion, sliced avocado and lime wedges. My fajitas were suppose to come with guacamole but the waitress never brought it and I ended up forgetting about it until I was just about done and by that time it was busy so I said ill just try it next time. We didn't try any drinks from the bar but I did see they have a daily drink special. We both ordered Coca-Colas. While we were eating we did notice a couple of flies flying around but it has been hot outside and the door opens quite often with people coming and going so not really a big deal, just annoying. We would definitely stop back for dinner again. We will have to check out that...
Read moreLittle Cancun is an okay Mexican restaurant, but I'm not sure we will return. We stopped in on a Friday night, around 6 PM. They were jammed! This restaurant is small, which is normally fine, and we were encouraged by the packed full parking lot. I figured this meant we were in for a treat, as this many people can't be wrong at once. When we went inside, it was very loud, to the point where it was hard to have a normal conversation. I don't like that for a family dinner, but I understand that may be how some places are. We waited around 10 minutes for a booth, and were greeted warmly by the waiter after a few minutes. He took our food and drink orders without writing them down (always impressive) and also brought chips and plates to the table.
I was confused at first, because he brought no salsa. Instead, he dropped off two squeeze bottles (think plastic ketchup bottles with the top removed), one filled with green liquid and one filled with red. We quickly figured out these were salsas to be used with the chips, but they were so thin that it made that difficult at best. No major issue, just different. I liked that the salsas were flavorful and spicy, just how we like them.
Our food arrived 10-15 minutes after ordering, and everything looked great. All 4 dishes were prepared as ordered, special requests included. This is where things took an odd turn. I typically love to mix my rice and beans together, but neither had much if any flavor to them. There was no spice, no seasoning, just plain tasting rice and beans. Honestly, I've made better refried beans from a can at home with some spice and onion additions. The enchiladas were at best okay as well, although the "chunky beef" was extremely tender. A ground beef taco and chimichanga were decent, but again, not very flavorful. It just felt like something was missing.
Overall, Little Cancun was okay, but I don't think we'll add them to our normal rotation. The wait was fine, service was good, but the food was just not up to our...
