Brace yourself, this review may be a little lengthy!
Grill Shack has amazing food and the owner is one of the nicest guys I have ever had the luxury of speaking with. He also enjoys conversation which is refreshing. I feel these days we have little interaction with restaurant staff when picking up Dinner.
My wife and I stopped in after a random hummus and shawarma craving took hold of us. After combing the reviews we saw a lot about the hummus so it was a no brainer, we had to try it.
We decided on the hummus with shawarma chicken, the chicken shawarma wrap, the beef shawarma wrap ( I swapped the tahini for garlic sauce, just my preference), a side of cheese fries (to appease the inner child in us) and lastly, had to try their rice.
We ate in the restaurant so I could leave an honest review without any issues of food being cold/soggy and what have you.
The hummus, silky yet fluffy. The flavor is incredible. The added shawarma chicken makes the hummus bowl an entire meal not an appetizer. The pita served with it is lightly steamed, highly recommend eating in the restaurant. The pita is perfectly warm and fluffy. We wanted some additional pitas to go and the owner gave them to us along with the best way to heat them at home.
The wraps! (Sorry my chicken wrap photo is absolutely horrendous)
Both the chicken and beef shawarma wraps were probably the best I've had around the Milwaukee area. The chicken is juicy and flavorful. Vegetables are super fresh and crunchy, but I would say my favorite part was the size and quality of the wrap itself. The wrap has to be at least a foot long and was perfectly rolled up and grilled. I cannot stand a sloppy wrap, this guy knows what he is doing! The beef was tender and I can happily say I didn't come across any sketchy bites of beef. The owner takes a lot of pride in the quality of his food and it shows in the meat especially. We also had a small spicy dipping sauce which took the beef shawarma to another level.
The rice was tender, fluffy and very well seasoned. Goes very well with the hummus and chicken. I will be returning for the chicken tawook and the beef kabob plates because those dishes are served with the rice and looked amazing.
Cheese fries are cheese fries, but they didn't skimp on the cheese which is always a good thing.
My 5/5 is based on a lot of factors, but the service provided by the owner really put it over the top. This man makes all his dips and sauces in house and it makes the dishes shine.
Go give Grill Shack a try, I hope your experience is as good...
Read moreSo I had to have a Gyro. And when you have to have a Gyro everything you get can only compare to the O.G. Oakland Gyros. So, Walked in, they had a decent menu, variety (not too much) of a few American Staples and Mediterranean Staples. The pricing seemed to be a little less than the competitors. Inside was clean and simple. I asked for and ordered 1 Gyro Sandwich. The sandwich comes with feta, tomatoes, onion AND lettuce with tzatziki sauce on the side. I'm not a big believer in lettuce on the Gyro, but I wanted to try it. The "odd" thing I noticed, no rotating spit with a bunch of meat on it cooking it as it rotates. Instead it was already cut and re-heated on the flat top; however, it had that "flame spit" taste. Got my food, wait was not too long. Went home and ate it. It was a nice healthy portion. Definitely better than average. Next time for me, no lettuce. However it really was good. the sauce, thick, strong cucumber taste. What I liked, the gentleman diced all the tomatoes, onions, feta and lettuce. I like the smaller pieces, easier to eat. If Oakland Gyros is my 5, Brothers on HWY 100 is my 4.8 ( they are both so close ), then Grill Shack is about a 4.6 (great score) with that place down S 27th in Milwaukee (27th/Grange) about a 3.9. This place is close, I don't have to drive very far, only 2 miles and I get a great Gyro, well worth it. The guys working, super nice very accommodating. I hope this place does well and continues to thrive, it is a great addition to Franklin. SO GO SEE THEM, try some other sandwiches (they look all look good) and leave...
Read moreFirst time ordering from this restaurant and will be the last. After placing an order via their website, I received a call that one of the items I ordered was not available and if I wanted something else. I said no just refund for that one item. After checking my transactions I noticed that I was charged again for that same item, and a refund was not issued. I called to explained what happened and immediately the person on the other end tried to refute. I continued to explain that they did in fact put through another charge instead of a refund, he then responded with strong tone and arrogance; “If $6.37 is such a big deal to you, come in anytime and ask for me, I’m the manager and we can give you refund”. Blown away by his replied, I told him he could take the extra charge as donation. The audacity to talk to people in that manner when you run a service business is beyond comprehension to me. It is not about the money, it’s about an opportunity for them to correct their mistake and make things right. But clearly this establishment prefer to insult their customers for their incompetencies. This is in response to restaurant reply. Everything said was honest and I also have the transactions to prove another charge was put through. The fact that you still cannot apologize for the way you talk to people while insulting them shows your arrogance. To the owner thank you for calling me, but unsure why you would apologize for not having the item I ordered yesterday. That is not the problem. The problem is your manager and how he...
