I came to Callahan’s last night for the premier! Initially walking in, the place is cozy, with a cabin sort of feeling. I am a fan of that type of setting, so I was loving it! That is until we actually got seated. The booths were hard and it felt like I was sitting on cardboard covered in vinyl. I’m not sure if tables were pushed close together for the premiere, or if that is how the seats always are but it seemed pretty cramped. It felt like I was sitting at a huge family dinner instead of with my party of 3. However, I came to try the food, support, and check out the show so I wasn’t focused on that. It was very packed in there so I wouldn’t dare complain about wait times, which was appropriate for the crowd versus the amount of staff on hand, I suppose. I ordered the crab dip and the seafood flatbread. The crab dip was phenomenal! Served in a beautiful bread bowl with toasted cheese bread on the side, and topped with scallions and tomatoes. 10/10! The seafood flatbread, however, was a great disappointment. It comes with scallops, shrimp, crab meat, a seafood sauce and provolone cheese. Mine was overcooked but not completely burnt. I didn’t ask for a redo as it took a while to come and figured they might close before I could get a new one. First bite had a piece of shrimp in there, but it just tasted like fishy water. I’m not sure if that means the seafood was old or if it just wasn’t seasoned at all before being thrown on the flatbread, but it was pretty unpleasant. I took the rest home, figuring I could flavor it up myself, and after a lot of lime, salsa, hot sauce and chili lime seasoning, I was able to drown out the fish water taste. It still lingered as an aftertaste when I was done though. My friend had the smash burger and fries, and she said the burger was amazing, but the fries were rock hard. My other friend ordered the French onion soup- amazing, as well as the Mac and cheese and the chicken bacon ranch flatbread. I tried both and the flatbread was phenomenal, although a bit undercooked, however the macaroni was just awful. I’m not sure what cheese they used, but the dish tasted more like some sort of pie rather than Mac and cheese. The service was as good as could be expected since it was a full house and only a few servers. I’m not sure if I necessarily WANT to go back but I did make a reservation for next week for the showing and I have my fingers crossed that whatever I select next will be as good as the dip!

Let's start by saying the service was great; no complaints there. The place also looks nice and was reasonably clean. Now, for the food. My 5-year-old had chicken tenders with fries. It was okay for $10, but the chicken was patently over-fried and a bit dry. The fries were the supermarket-bag style, not made in-house. My 8-year-old had the mac and cheese, which was $8, plus an additional $6 for the "Jumbo lump crab" extra. I don't expect a lot of crab for $6, but I do expect more than what you could (or, rather, couldn't) see in the picture. On top of that, the dish was incredibly bland. Each time you tried to grab a bite, you got the distinct smell and feeling reminiscent of spoiled meat. I don't want to judge; maybe it was a spice that didn't agree with us, but my 8-year-old refused to eat it, and I couldn't either. We are not picky eaters. My wife's dish was $28 for literally four scallops. Now, I've been to high-end restaurants where such a portion might be justified by a certain level of service and execution. However, the service, plating, and ambiance here were that of a family restaurant or diner, not fine dining. The scallops themselves were okay (credit where credit's due), but they came with a half-spoiled salad—I've attached pictures, including one of the salad, though it might be hard to discern just how bad it was from the photo alone—capers that were way past their prime, and potatoes that were barely "okay." The overall quality was, unfortunately, consistent with the rest of our meal. My own dish was chicken Chesapeake for $35. Again, it came with a half-spoiled salad and a passable baked potato. The chicken was the driest I've had in a lifetime, and the crab imperial gave me the same impression as the one my son had on his mac and cheese. It smelled almost like it had been prepared with cheap provolone. I didn't find a single significant piece of crab in it; for all I can tell, it could have been made with crab leftovers. We are local and will never, under any circumstances, return.

My husband and I have been going to Callahan’s for over a decade. While, I applaud the owner for trying to make some changes. I think it’s necessary to still cater to your target audience. The prices on the menu are very steep for the food they’re offering. Not that the food wasn’t good, but it wasn’t 26$ good for fried fish and some soggy fries. They also took off staples from the menu, such as fried pickles, the nachos, peanut butter pie, and the famous, seafood flatbread. There should be a separte menu for the bar for people who want normal bar food like wings with BLUE CHEESE. The drink menu wasn’t much better considering they didn’t have a lot of the ingredient’s to make the drinks. The “refresh” needs alot of work. Rather than actually refreshing the place they nailed some old sea worthy decorations from good will to the walls. That junk belongs at the bottom of the ocean. Maybe put money into actually updating the barback and painting and lightening up the place. Also give the dying plants inside some sunlight. We will still come to Callahan’s from time to time. It’s in our heart. We cherish the people who work there. I just think a lot needs done before it’s actually “refreshed” don’t allow Gordon Ramsey to make you forget your roots.

My wife and I have been going here every year for the last 5 years for Valentine's day and man was this year a disappointment. Our waiter had no idea about menu options. He had to leave the table after ever piece of information we gave him about our order to ask the manager how to write it, or if something was available. No dinner rolls were brought to our table until we asked for some once our entrees came out. (Everyone else was given a basket upon sitting down at the table) we had to flag the waiter down after we got our food to get a refill on our drinks. My wife got one of the specials for the night (thinking it would be really good) which was crab and shrimp alfredo. It was so bland and had absolutely no taste what so ever to it. There were maybe 5 shrimp, and we couldn't even see one chunk of crab in the entire plate (for $25) it came with one side which she chose to get Cream of Crab (also couldn't find any crab in that) I got a fillet, which was also bland and wasnt cooked with any seasonings at all. I had Maryland crab soup which also was lacking the crab. We were seated toward the back near the bar which was extremely noisey for guests who wanted to enjoy a nice evening with their significant other. It was us, (in our 20s) and the rest of the couple's back there were all in their 60s(ish?) The owner came around checking on every table making sure their meals were okay. Nope. Not us. Completely slipped over our table not once, but twice. After checking EVERY table around us. Which was so incredibly rude. Previous years while dining was an excellent experience but not this year. In past years when getting ready to leave they gave out either a carnation, or complimentary chocolate covered strawberries (one per guest at the table). This year was a Hershey kiss (also one per guest) this place is just going further and further down hill. And even putting the food aside, just with our table getting completely ignored by the owner (not sure if it was due to being a same sex couple, or due to being younger) we will not be back which is a huge disappointment for us as it was tradition for us to go yearly. Even though we have now moved out of the area, we still...

Last night my mom and I along with two of our good friends decided it would be a good night to try the supposedly new and improved Callahan's! We typically had good experiences eating there in the past and were anticipating what differences we would find, hoping to be positive ones. Little did we know that it would turn into a disappointing experience! My disappointment was mostly related to the quality of the service, although we experienced some food related disappointments as well, big one being the change of the recipe of the cream of crab soup, which used to be my friends favorite there and which she was extremely dissatisfied with this visit! Our server started out being somewhat attentive, took our order and then became less attentive. When our food came out, which took awhile and there was only one other table in the restaurant at that time, only three of our meals came out. After about 10 minutes we wondered where the fourth meal was and when we questioned the server, she was kind of short with us and said they were still working on it. In the meantime the only other table in the restaurant, which came in after we ordered had already gotten their food! Finally after a total of about 20 minutes my mom's crab cake sandwich finally came out and the rest of us were just about done with our meals! When I told the server we were unhappy with the situation and I would like to speak with the manager she told me there was no manager there on Sundays and they would not be there til Friday. She also was dismissive and really didn't try to appease us in any way or offer anything to rectify the situation while it was happening. Towards the end of our visit she did say she could take my name & number and have the manager call me. And when she finally brought the checks, she did wind up taking 10% off our checks and said that is all they are authorized to do when there is no manager there. I have been in the hospitality industry for over 4 decades and never have I been or worked in a restaurant where there is no manager on duty, yet there only a couple of days a week?!? Needless to say we will not be returning and question whether I will actually get a phone call from...
