Today, I spent $27 of my hard-earned money on what amounts to small scoops of food—portions better suited for a child. Still, I didn’t mind paying that because I genuinely enjoy the flavors. I considered adding Suya, but when told it was $15, I decided it wasn’t worth adding that to my already pricey meal.
What I didn’t expect was to be told, at the register, that moving forward, I would no longer be allowed to purchase food from them unless I also buy meat. Excuse me? When was this policy implemented? There are no signs posted, and I’ve purchased the same meatless meals multiple times with no issue. The cashier said they would make a one-time exception since the ayamase “has meat in it,” but from now on I’d be required to buy additional meat with every order. That’s unreasonable and frankly discriminatory toward customers who may not eat meat—whether for dietary, religious, or financial reasons.
Everything is priced per scoop and per piece, so as a paying customer, I should be able to buy what I choose and what I can afford. I left feeling disrespected, disappointed, and completely turned off by the rude and dismissive customer service I received.
Normally, I support small ethnic businesses and would never leave a review like this. I’ve recommended this place to friends and family before. But after today’s experience, I can confidently say I will no longer be giving Jollof On Point my business—and I’ll be letting others know about this unprofessional treatment as well.
Do better.
UPDATE
As stated, I’ve ordered the same meal from this establishment several times with no issue, so I was surprised by the sudden policy change requiring meat with every order. Rather than clearly communicating this change with proper signage or a respectful explanation, the response I received was rude and unprofessional.
As a paying customer, I absolutely have the right to express that I felt disrespected—that was my experience and perception. A simple, constructive approach could’ve avoided any confusion. SUCH AS A SIGN! Instead, the interaction left a bad taste in my mouth, and it’s clear this place is not interested in customer retention or respectful dialogue.
Mentioning that you’re barely breaking even is not only irrelevant to the issue, but it also highlights a lack of accountability. Either way, I won’t be stepping foot back in your establishment. Cheers to your 200 reviews & best of luck to you. I am...
Read moreMy girlfriend is Nigerian, so when we saw Frederick was getting a new Nigerian restaurant, we knew we had to try it out. She has pretty high standards when it comes to Nigerian food, and Jollof on Point absolutely does not disappoint! We've gone 4 times now, and it has been consistently fantastic!
Each experience with Jollof on Point has been excellent! We've tried a large number of the dishes available and everything has been stellar. My personal favorites so far have been the jollof rice, fried rice, jasmine rice with red stew, baked chicken thighs, fried plantains, and meat pie. I don't think I'll be able to go now without getting some of each! The food has been consistently delicious and flavorful! Quite frankly, I can't get enough! I'll also note that both versions of the red stew are fantastic, depending on what your spice tolerance is.
The pricing is also very reasonable. You're able to mix and match the various available dishes as they're essentially priced a few dollars per portion. I love this approach, because it makes it easy to get a little bit of all of your favorites!
I can't say enough about how great the staff and service has been. The staff has been so friendly and welcoming each time we come in, and they have gone out of their way to express their appreciation for supporting their business. My girlfriend has a tree nut allergy, and they've been great about all inquiries related to allergens. It's immensely appreciated that they specifically cook the food with allergens in mind.
It's wonderful to have a great Nigerian restaurant here in Frederick! There's great variety in the food and flavors, so anyone should be able to find something that suits their taste, and the staff makes you feel like family. This restaurant is absolutely deserving of your business! Go and give it a try, you won't be...
Read moreWe’ve been coming to Jollof On Point for over a year now and are ALWAYS satisfied. From the very beginning, Abby and her team have made dining here a truly special experience.
First, they offer samples of different dishes so you can be sure you’ll love what you order—a thoughtful touch that shows how much they care about customer satisfaction. Second, the staff are always courteous, professional, and welcoming. And most importantly, the food is consistently delicious. We’ve tried many different dishes over the past year and loved every single one.
We happily travel nearly an hour just to eat here, and it’s always worth the trip. On top of the wonderful food, the prices are incredibly reasonable for the generous portions and high quality you receive. If you enjoy supporting small business owners who source their ingredients locally, this is absolutely the place for you.
And as if all of that weren’t enough, the heart of this restaurant is Abby herself. She doesn’t just cook amazing food—she pours love into the community. When Abby is in the restaurant, she treats every guest like family and takes the time to genuinely connect with people. That personal warmth is a rare gift that makes this restaurant stand out even more.
If you’re thinking about coming, don’t hesitate. Come once and you’ll be so glad you did—it’s the kind of place you’ll want to return to...
