My family was associated with a local Red Cross blood drive in Frederick, MD, the city where this restaurant is located. This Roy Rogers had agreed to provide meals for the nurses and blood technicians, and my job was to pick up the food they were to donate.
I arrived a little early, and when I told them why I was there, these people lit up. To a person it was obvious that they not only knew I was coming and what I was there for, they were proud to help.
They had already assembled and packed side dishes ("One of everything for each person because, you know, people have a long day sometimes or like to share stuff."). They had been holding off on the hot food, chicken and sandwiches "so they would be good and hot when they got there".
Within a few minutes I had two very large shopping/carryout bags filled with food, fixings, napkins, and utensils, and even though it was raining, the manager and team insisted on carrying it to the car for me. Throughout the walk out there to the car and then even after it was in the car, those with me, just like the ones who had prepared it were not only enthusiastic in making sure it was right but in being so appreciative of the work of the volunteers, the importance of the blood drive.
I am told by the nurses and techs that the food was great, but I told THEM and the volunteer lead at the church (Calvary United Methodist), that the men and women at this Roy Rogers were just as much members of the volunteer team, just as engaged, just as enthusiastic about the success of the blood drive as they were.
A company donating to a good cause can give stuff and get a tax write off and can act like it is just business. I am sure that happens a lot. But at least at this Roy Rogers and at least on this day, the team of people, to a person, in that store, were far more than that. They caringly, enthusiastically, generously, and authentically gave of their time, talent, effort, and emotion to help the Red Cross, the volunteers, and the donors, save lives across our region.
So, THANK YOU to the Roy Rogers on Thomas Johnson Drive. You, each of you, helped make a great day greater still and you did it in...
Read moreI have not had Roy Roger's in YEARS but was in the area getting a boot put on my ankle, don't ask, and decided to reminisce by getting a Strawberry Shortcake and it was still just as good as I remember.
However...the chicken strips I ordered were basura AKA trash! I got the pick 2 thingy to which I ended up with 6 chicken tenders. I waited which I don't mind because that meant they were gonna be hot/fresh but they were chewy because there was tendons still in each one of them as well as a lot of fat. I don't think I've ever had chicken tenders from any restaurant or fast food place that didn't remove the tendon, so that was super weird and I was already omw 270sb by the time I tried to eat them to turn around. They may have ran out and grabbed some from the grocery store perhaps, idk but that was horrible. The Strawberry Shortcake and Mashed Potatoes were both very good just like I remember when I was a teenager. Gold rush dipping sauce still taste as I remembered it. Creamy mashed potatoes with that homestyle gravy, classic that you could never go wrong with from here. The Strawberry Shortcake with the soft buttery biscuit that seems to melt under the strawberries and ice cream...
Read moreManagement is very considerate and understanding when there is a problem, which is seldom . I have been going there for years, because it is so local to my home. Ryan, is the long time manager of this particular Roy Rogers and several of the staff members have been there just as long, if not longer. The consistency in employment pays off. New cashiers at the drive up do not hear clearly at times, so you must be patient with them. And enunciate. I miss the macaroni and cheese. It was my favorite side. And I like the gold rush chicken sandwich and the bacon bourbon flavor chicken sandwich. Actually, I do not taste any bourbon flavoring, but it is a good sauce with a kick to it. Their ice cream is very good quality, and don’t forget to mention the senior discount! Even before Covid, if they were closing any minute and I called in, they would bring out a package of fried chicken to my car! I feel they...
